The Tulsa Talons are used to being in the playoffs. Tulsa has made the post season in every year of their existence. This time though, its a new deal. The Talons host the Tampa baay Storm in their first ever playoff game in the new Arena Football League. Tulsa was the winningest team in af2 history but that won't matter when the kick off comes on Saturday night at 7:05. The Storm are five-time Arena Bowl champions in the old AF1 and come to town with five titles. Remember to listen to tha game, even in the arena on AM740/FM102.3, NewsTalk KRMG.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season.  The Talons won the 1st contest by a score of 69-58 in week one of the regular season.
The Talons are entering the playoffs for the 11th straight season (qualifying all 11 years in franchise history) and are coming off their 9th straight division title. The Talons finished the regular season with the 2nd best offense in the league averaging 62.1 points per game. The offense will need to be firing on all cylinders as they will be facing the league's 2nd stingiest defense.  The Storm gave up just 50.8 points per game during the regular season.
The Talons' offense put up some lofty numbers this season in large part due to its balance.  Talons' QB Justin Allgood led the AFL in touchdown passes with 109 (breaking his franchise record of 108), Donovan Morgan led the AFL in touchdown receptions with 52, Odie Armstrong led the AFL in rushing with 349 yards and all three wide receivers eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark in receiving.
On the other side of the ball for each team, the Storm averaged 57.9 points per game offensively led by their QB Brett Dietz who threw for 106 touchdown passes. The Talons who gave up 56.2 points per game on defense were led by Gabe Nyenhuis who led the AFL in forced fumbles and sacks and Jamar Ransom who led the Talons with 92 tackles .
On paper the two teams are evenly matched. The game will be decided by which team can protect their quarterback and which team has the fewest turnovers.
Tickets to the game can be purchased by calling the Talons office at 294-1000.

Tulsa loses its first ever at the BOK Center

The winning streak is over. Since moving into the BOK Center last year, the Tulsa Talons had not lost at the new arena. Saturday night the Orlando Predators handed Tulsa a 57-54 loss in a whacky game that saw two TD passes bounce off the end zone walls and be hauled in by Orlando.

The Tulsa defense played well enough to win most of the night. Tulsa intercepted Predators QB Nick Hill three times and stopped Orlando on fourth and goal once as well. But the usually potent Tulsa offense went into hibernation. No statistics were available after the game due to a software malfunction. Check out the video below of the Talons last score. This Jeff Hughley TD made it 57-54 with :17 to go but Orlando was able to recover the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. Tulsa now stands at 5-4 on the year with two very difficult Friday night road games coming up. Tulsa will be at Dallas and then at Spokane the next two Friday nights.

The Tulsa Talons fell 1 spot in this week's Coaches Poll despite winning on the road 52-48 in Shreveport and picking up 2 first place votes. It was the Talons 1st road win this season. The see saw affair saw the Talons come up with a couple of big defensive plays down the stretch including an interception by Talons' defensive back Chris Royal to seal the victory in the waning seconds.

The Talons are back at home this weekend to face perennial AFL powerhouse, the Orlando Predators on Saturday, June 5th at 7pm. The Predators had a slow start to the season, but have played well of late after making several key roster moves. The Talons will look to stretch their unbeaten record to 15 games in the BOK Center dating back to the beginning of the 2009 season.

Talons host the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgs this weekend!

A familiar foe comes to the Bank of Oklahoma Center Saturday night. Oklahoma City (2-4) travels up the Turner Turnpike to renew their rivalry against the Talons (3-3).
It could also be a record-setting night for Tulsa's starting quarterback. During the last home game, running back Odie Armstrong set a franchise record with a 37-yard TD run against Alabama. Now it is quarterback Justin Allgood who has a chance to rewrite the team's record book.
Allgood trails all-time franchise leader Craig Strickland by just 262 yards in total passing. Earlier this season, the 6-1, 205-pound QB became the all-time leader in touchdown passes in Talons history.
The Central Oklahoma alum has completed 135-of-203 passes for 1,655 yards and 44 TDs this season. Allgood is also ranked No. 4 in the AFL in passing yards.
Donovan Morgan is Allgood's top target. The 6-3, 220-pound wide receiver currently ranks second in the AFL in total scoring (132 points) and fourth in receiving yards per game at 125.8.
And wideout Jeff Hughley currently ranks second in the league in all purpose yards with 1,092. Add this to Armstrong ranking third in the league in rushing with 101 yards and you see why the Talons offense currently ranks second in total scoring.
Dustin Barno leads an OKC defense that ranks fifth in total defense per game and opponent's third down conversions. The 6-3, 270-pound defensive lineman is second in the league in tackles for loss with 5.5 and fifth in sacks with three.
David Hyland is the key member of the Yard Dawgz secondary, having tallied three interceptions this season. Hyland is also second on the squad with 32 tackles.
Tulsa's pass defense will again be challenged just one week after allowing nine touchdown passes to Cleveland. The Yard Dawgz rank third in the AFL in pass efficiency at 121.6, thanks to former University of Oklahoma and Utah quarterback Tommy Grady.
Grady has completed 150-of-225 passes for 1,816 yards and 35 TDs and five interceptions.
Grady's favorite targets are wide receivers Anthony Hines and Al Hunt. The duo has combined for 66 catches for 889 yards and 21 TDs. Timon Marshall is third in the league with 964 all purpose yards.
Tulsa leads the all-time series 9-5 in the regular season and 2-0 in the postseason against OKC. But this is the first battle between rivals in the new AFL.
Tulsa swept the 2009 series against Oklahoma City when both teams were in the af2. The Talons won at home 75-56 on May 9 and on the road 73-46 on May 30, 2009.
To order tickets to see Tulsa play their arch-rival OKC, call the Talons office at 294-1000.  Tickets start as low as $10.
2010 Remaining Home Schedule
5/22 Oklahoma City  7pm
6/5 Orlando   7pm
6/26 Cleveland  7pm
7/10 Bossier-Shreveport 7pm
7/24 Arizona   7pm

The Talons will once again play all home games at one of the best arenas in the country, the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa.  Since the opening in September of 2008, the BOK Center has garnered national and worldwide recognition most recently being ranked 5th in the U.S. and 14th in the world for ticket sales in the 3rd quarter of 2009.

The Tulsa Shock's opening night game against the Minnesota Lynx on May 15 is sold out. However, with the support of John Bolton, General Manager of the BOK Center, and the arena staff, 200 standing-room only tickets have been made available for the opener.

"This is an incredible accomplishment," Bolton said.  "Not only do we have a sold-out opening game, but to have to add an additional 200 standing room only tickets is a great indication of the success this team will have in Tulsa."

Standing-room tickets are available for $10 and can be purchased by calling: 918-599-WNBA (9622), emailing tickets@tulsashock.net or going to the BOK box office.

"We are excited to see the community embrace the Tulsa Shock on opening night," said Shock President Steve Swetoha. "The players, coaches and entire Shock organization appreciate the support and commitment the community has shown us - it's humbling."

In order to create an intimate environment for fans in attendance, tickets for home games will only be sold for the lower bowl of the arena for the entire season. The capacity of the lower arena is 7,479.  However, an additional 200 to 400 overflow seats were made available for opening night, raising the capacity of the lower bowl to well above 7,500. Currently, only standing-room tickets are available for May 15.

Visit www.tulsashock.net for the schedule and ticket information for upcoming games. The Shock play 17 regular season games at the BOK Center this summer.

Talons look for their first road win

Tulsa looks to break into the win column on the road this week. After dropping their only two road games by a combined three points this season, the Talons are traveling to the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tune in to AM740, FM102.3, KRMG at 5:30 Satuurday for the pre game with the kick-off at 6:00pm.

This could be a high-scoring affair as Cleveland (2-3) and Tulsa (3-2) are both ranked in the top five in total offense. The Talons are currently second while the Gladiators are fifth. Game time is set for 6 p.m. CST Saturday, May 15 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
The Gladiators come into the game on a two-game winning streak. Cleveland dropped the first three games of the season and return to the Quicken Loans Arena for the first time in four weeks. Plus, the Gladiators are 2-1 against former af2 teams.
Veteran Gladiator quarterback John Dutton threw five touchdown passes last week against Iowa. The two-time Arena Bowl champion signal caller needs just 202 passing yards to reach 30,000 for his career. Plus, the nine-year AFL veteran needs just six TD passes to reach 600 in his career.
Ben Nelson had 12 receptions and three TD catches while Chris Johnson added 13 catches for 166 yards to lead Cleveland over Iowa 70-56 last week. Johnson leads the league with 56 catches and is second in receptions per game with 11.2.
The offensive line leads the league in sacks against, having allowed only one sack this season. However, Tulsa's Terrance Carter leads the league in sacks per game and forced fumbles. The 6-4, 260-pound defensive end could be a key to Tulsa's pressure.
Linebacker Jamar Ransom was named the JSL Ironman of the Week as he led the Talons with 7.5 tackles and a key sack for a safety in the third quarter.
But it's not just the Gladiator offense that has been scoring recently. Cleveland intercepted Iowa QB Ryan Vena once and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. This was the second defensive touchdown in as many games.
Defensive ends Anthony Hoke and Lance Witherspoon key the pass rush with 2.5 sacks each this season. Defensive back Carlos Campbell leads the team with 37 total tackles and four passes broken up.
Donovan Morgan posted the Cutters Catch of the Week against Alabama. The 6-3, 220-pound receiver made a diving, one-handed catch in the end zone to knot the score at 42-42 on the last play of the third quarter. "Spiderman" is first in the AFL in scoring with 118 points and scoring per game by averaging 23.6 points per game.
Running back Odie Armstrong set the Talons franchise record with a 37-yard TD run last week against Alabama. It was the longest run from scrimmage in Tulsa Talons history.
Quarterback Justin Allgood has completed 111-of-166 passes for 1,303 yards and 37 TDs. Allgood is ranked No. 6 in the AFL in pass efficiency with a 122.6 ranking.
Next week, the Talons face arch-rival Oklahoma City at the BOK Center. To order tickets, call the Talons office at 294-1000.  Tickets start as low as $10.

"We think we have come up with a plan that fits everyone's needs and budgets," General Manager Taylor Hall said. "In addition to the ability to have season tickets for less than a dollar a day, we are also offering ways for fans to secure their seats for multiple seasons, as a hedge against inflation.

"We have a number of additional incentives exclusively for season ticket holders that make an Oilers season ticket even more valuable," Hall said. "For example, every season ticket holder automatically receives a discount on Oilers merchandise and souvenirs. We'll also continue our pregame parties exclusively for season ticket holders."

The Oilers had the second highest point total increase in the CHL this season under head coach Bruce Ramsay, who was in his first season with the Oilers. They will have 32 home games at the BOK Center in the 2010-11 season.

Season tickets for 2010-11 are now available by calling the Oilers office at 918-632-PUCK (7825).

Tulsa places one on the Conference USA all league basketball team

Players from five different schools are represented on the 2010 All-Conference USA men's basketball first-team, featuring three repeat all-conference selections and two newcomers. Seniors Aubrey Coleman of Houston and Ben Uzoh of Tulsa are joined by juniors Elijah Millsap of UAB and Randy Culpepper of UTEP, along with sophomore Elliot Williams of Memphis. All five players are guards. Voting on the awards was done by the C-USA head coaches and media members in each conference city.

Coleman is a repeat first-team selection and has been the nation's leading scorer this season, averaging 26.0 points per game. The guard from Houston, Texas, scored 420 points during the conference regular season, the second-highest total in league history. Coleman, who has led UH in scoring in all but one game this season, enters this week's GMC Sierra C-USA Men's Basketball Championship with 1,400 points during his two years at UH. He was named C-USA Player of the Week five times this season.

Uzoh, a two-time second-team all-conference selection, leads Tulsa in scoring this season at 15.4 points per game, while adding 4.7 rebounds per game and 45 three-pointers made. He has moved into the top 10 in C-USA history in scoring, ranking seventh with 1,895 points. Uzoh is just the sixth player in Tulsa to history to score at least 400 points in three consecutive seasons.

Culpepper made the jump from the all-conference third team to the first team as he helped guide UTEP to its first C-USA title with a 15-1 league record. The junior from Memphis, Tenn., enters the C-USA Championship ranked third in C-USA in scoring at 18.1 points per game. Culpepper has led the Miners in scoring 14 times this season and has moved up fourth place in scoring all-time at UTEP with 1,597 points. He has topped the 30-point mark three times this year, including 45 points against East Carolina on Feb. 13, the most by any C-USA player this season and tied for second-most in league history.

Millsap burst onto the scene for UAB this season, averaging 16.0 points per game (fifth in C-USA), while leading the league in rebounding (9.3) from his guard position. He is one of only two guards to rank among the top 40 players in rebounding in Division I. Millsap, the brother of Utah Jazz star Paul Millsap, tops the conference in double-doubles with 15 (second-most in UAB history).

Williams has scored in double figures in 29 of 31 games this season and is currently averaging 18.5 points per game. He has topped the 20-point mark on 16 occasions, the fourth-highest single-season total in Tiger history. Williams also ranks in C-USA's top 10 in assists per game (3.8) and three-point field goals made (56).

The second team is comprised completely of forwards and centers. Marshall senior Tyler Wilkerson and freshman Hassan Whiteside (the only freshman all-conference selection) are joined by Southern Miss junior Gary Flowers, UTEP junior Derrick Caracter and Tulsa senior Jerome Jordan on the second unit.

SMU placed two student-athletes on the all-conference third team in junior forward Papa Dia and senior guard Derek Williams. The pair was joined by Memphis sophomore swingman Wesley Witherspoon and junior guards Brock Young of East Carolina and Aaron Johnson of UAB.

These 15 All-Conference players will be in action at this week's GMC Sierra C-USA Men's Basketball Championship, March 10-13 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Etan Thomas, who grew up in Tulsa, made two free throws with 11.4 seconds left to make it 95-91 and Durant made one of two from the line to seal the win. Michael Beasley led Miami (0-4) with 24 points, while Daequan Cook scored 14. The Heat played without star guard Dwyane Wade, who missed his second straight preseason game with a strained muscle in his left rib cage.

The BOK Center and the Tulsa Talons have reached a new rental agreement where the Tulsa Talons will return to the BOK Center.

"We consider the City of Tulsa and the BOK Center our home," said Michael Johnson, Talons ownership partner.  "We expect it to stay that way for a very long time. Our new deal with the BOK Center is truly a win-win situation that promotes both the long-term viability of the team and the arena."

The new agreement also creates a marketing partnership between the two entities whereby the BOK Center's full-service marketing department will assist the team in media buying/planning, grassroots marketing, public relations, group sales and database marketing.

John Bolton, general manager of the BOK Center, commented, "The key to success for the BOK Center is the collaboration that exists between the venue and its clients.   Each party has to work together to maximize the strengths of each entity.  I believe our new agreement creates a shared responsibility for the success of the team in Tulsa."

Mayor Kathy Taylor added, "We believe the Tulsa Talons are a great asset to the BOK Center and to the City of Tulsa.  This new agreement creates an avenue that encourages teamwork and at the same time maintaining fiscal responsibility for all involved."

There will be a bit of a reunion this year on the Tulsa Oilers. The Oilers have signed right winger Michel Beausoleil for the 2009-10  Central hockey league season. The move brings the Oilers second leading  scorer from last season back to Tulsa and reunites him with coach Bruce  Ramsay. Beausoliel played for Ramsay with the Port Huron Beacons of the then United Hockey League (now known as the International Hockey League). "He's the kind of coach where everyone will play to win. If that's not working he'll make whatever changes he needs to," Beausoleil said. "He wants to get the team back to the playoffs and go from there."
The 5-foot-10 205 pounder has scored at least 35 goals in a season four times in his career. Last year for the Oilers he reached the 200 goal plateau for his career with his second goal of the season. He ended the season with 19 goals, and 42 assists with 61 points and 96 penalty minutes in 63 games. Season tickets for the Oilers 2009-10 season in the BOK Center are available by calling the Oilers at (918) 632-PUCK (7825).

If you like excitement and hard hitting, we have just the thing for you. Head downtown to the BOK Center Saturday night when the Tulsa Talons (9-1) play the Arkansas Twisters (7-3.) Tulsa is on an eight game winning streak after the week two loss to Iowa in Des Monies. The Talons have struggled with the Twisters, trailing in the overall series 10-7.

All indications are this weekend's game is going to be a quarterback duel. Arkansas Quarterback Kyle Rowley averages 303.2 yards a game while Talons Quarterback Justin Allgood averages 281.8 yards per game. Allgood is on pace to break the league record for most touchdown passes in a season. He currently has 71 touchdown passes through 10 games.

On offense both teams are close in stats. The Talons lead the league in scoring offense averaging 64.7 points per game. The Twisters are averaging 60.3 points per game. Talons receiver Jeff Hughley leads in the league in all-purpose yards with an average of 234.3 yards per game.

All Talons games are broadcast live on KRMG 740 AM and 102.3FM.

The Talons will be on the road next Friday taking on the Green Bay Blizzard. For information on group or individual tickets, call 918.294.1000
