(Tulsa, OK) - The jobs picture for Tulsa gets a bit brighter. John Carpenter with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says the Tulsa metro area's unemployment rate in July dropped to 7.5% from 7.9% in June.
Down the Turnpike unemployment also fell. The Oklahoma City area's July rate was 6.4%. In June it was 6.7%.
Carpenter says 68 of the 77 counties saw unemployment drop in July. He says the southeast part of the state continues to have the highest unemployment rate while the northwest continues to have the lowest rate.
(Oklahoma City, OK) - Unemployment inches up in the Tulsa area. John Carpenter with Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says the Tulsa Metro Statistical Region went from 7.8% in May to 7.9% in June.
Carpenter says all the state's metro areas saw a rise in their unemployment rate. He says Oklahoma City's went up by two-tenths of a percent in June to 6.7%
Carpenter says the area of highest unemployment is still in southeast Oklahoma with McCurtain County leading the pack at 11.3%. The northeast part of Oklahoma has the lowest rates with Beaver County coming in with the lowest rate at 3.7%
(Oklahoma City, OK) - Oklahoma's unemployment rate sees a small uptick. It rose by one tenth of a percent in June to 6.8%.
In contrast the state also saw a small rise in the number of jobs created. John Carpenter with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says that's possible because the jobs created numbers refer to the number of positions and some of those can be vacant.
The seasonally adjusted numbers for June nonfarm employment expanded by 4,300 jobs. The sector with the largest growth was in professional and business services with a rise of 3,300 jobs.
(Oklahoma City, OK) - Congress may have turned the taps back on for extended unemployment benefits but it may be a while before eligible Oklahomans see the money. John Carpenter with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says they should have all the claims processed by next Wednesday.
Carpenter says they've been urging people to continue to file for benefits even during the funding gap. He says those that did shouldn't need to do anything else to receive the benefits.
Carpenter says the benefits are retroactive so those that qualify for them will get the back pay as well.
(Tulsa, Ok) -- A mixed unemployment picture. On one hand the Tulsa metro's jobless rate jumped to 8.2 percent in January. You would have to go all the way back to 1990 to see the Tulsa metro's unemployment rate this high. On the other hand the state's jobless rate dropped one-tenth-of-one percent in January. The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission's John Carpenter says McCurtain County had the highest unemployment rate in January....12.1 percent.
