SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) _ A Creek County deputy is recovering afterbeing grazed in the neck during what authorities described as an
ambush northeast of Sapulpa.
Capt. Mike O'Keefe says deputies responded Thursday evening to a
domestic disturbance at a rural home and found the driveway blocked
with a pickup truck.
As they walked up the driveway, O'Keefe says the suspect opened
fire from a wooded area with a .30-30 lever-action rifle. He says
the shooter also used a shotgun and two handguns as deputies
scrambled for cover.
O'Keefe says deputies finally arrested 56-year-old Robert Joseph
Hingey after he ran out of ammunition and surrendered. Hingey was
being held Friday at the Creek County Jail on complaints of
shooting with intent to kill and other pending charges.
(Tulsa, Ok)--It used to be a common event for Oklahoma law officers. They were often finding fields of marijuana plants, sweeping in and destroying them. Intense marijuana eradication efforts in past years make such fields like the one discovered this week near Mannford in Creek County a rare find. Sheriff's Captain Mike O'Keefe says this one was well cared for and the mature plants were ready for harvest. The estimated value of the crop is over $100,000.
