Longtime radio play-by-play announcer Bob Barry says this will be his last year as the voice of Oklahoma Sooners football and men's basketball teams. In a statement on OU's athletic website Tuesday, Barry said he had targeted 2010 as the year he would wrap up his announcing duties. This will be his 50th year calling Division I games in Oklahoma. Oklahoma president David Boren said he looks forward to Barry's continuing involvement in Oklahoma's athletic programs and sports broadcasts. The 79-year-old Barry became Oklahoma's play-by-play job in 1961 and held the position until 1972 when OU radio rights changed. Barry called University of Tulsa basketball games during the 1973-74 season and called football and men's basketball games for Oklahoma State from 1973 to 1990. He returned to Oklahoma in 1991.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has named walk-on Patrick O'Hara as the starting place-kicker for the seventh-ranked Sooners. Stoops said on his radio show Tuesday night that O'Hara won the competition with Jimmy Stevens, freshman Michael Hunnicutt and redshirt freshman Bryce Easley. O'Hara emerged late last season as the Sooners' kicker after Stevens and Tress Way struggled. However, Stoops had expressed disappointment throughout training camp that none of his kickers had performed at a consistently high level. Now that he's chosen a starter, Stoops says O'Hara ``needs to be given an opportunity to keep it and improve with it as opposed to some knee-jerk reaction and change it every kick.''

Pre-season hot lists awards are coming hot and heavy for college football. The state of Oklahoma is well represented and yesterday, two more state players were added. Oklahoma running back Demarco Murray and kendall Hunter from OSU have been named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the top running back in the nation.
Murray ranks 12th all-time in OU history in rushing yards with 2,471 and fifth in career touchdowns with 37. Murray also ranks second in OU history for receiving yards and receptions by a running back, and could break Quentin Griffin's records of 169 catches and 1,337 yards in his final year in Norman.
Hunter ranks 11th all time in Cowboy history for rushing touchdowns and rushing yards with 21 and 2,633 respectively. If he matches his performance from his last full season in both categories, he should be able to crack the top five in both categories

The OU football team named its captains Tuesday and there weren't many surprises. In a team vote, quarterback Landry Jones, defensive lineman Jeremy Beal and linebacker Travis Lewis were selected to be the on-field spokesmen.
Jones will be the Sooners' full-time starter thsi year after backing up Sam Bradford last year and playing a great deal due to injury.
"Landry has shown a lot of leadership," Lewis said. "He's really taken hold of that offense and made it his. Not only that offense, but this team; he knows we've got his back."
Lewis has been one OU's most consistent performers on defense for the past two seasons and led the Sooners in tackles both years. But with the departures of previous leaders Gerald McCoy and Ryan Reynolds, he has stepped into their shoes.
They are great leaders by the way they work, by the investment they've made in this program," said defensive coordinator Brent Venables. "I think it's very natural for those guys. Travis is obviously more vocal than Jeremy, but when Jeremy speaks, everybody listens and respects what he has to say."

An afternoon start time has been set for the annual Red River Rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas. The Sooners announced Monday that the Oct. 2 game will be played at 2:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The game had been played in the morning each of the past two years. Texas has won four of the last five meetings after snapping a five-game losing streak in the series.
More Sooner news.
Freshman Trey Millard has emerged as No. 7 Oklahoma's starter at fullback. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said after Monday's practice that Millard had moved ahead of senior Brandon Crow and redshirt freshman Marshall Musil at the key blocking position. Wilson says that Millard is ``probably the most skilled guy'' of the trio, but he's also been the best blocker through the first two weeks of training camp. Millard signed with the Sooners this February out of Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo. He's one of only two freshmen listed as a starter on Oklahoma's depth chart, along with receiver Kenny
Stills. However, Wilson says Stills needs to get ``up to speed'' after missing more than a week with a pulled groin before returning Monday.

Former Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer has prevailed in a lawsuit filed against him by former Oklahoma wrestling coach Stan Abel. Abel and former Oklahoma wrestler Mozaffar Jahanguiri sued Switzer in December for $90,000 and damages over a failed business deal involving an Oklahoma City restaurant. The lawsuit claimed
Abel and Jahanguiri were promised their money back ``on numerous occasions'' over the years, but Switzer never paid up. Switzer said he fulfilled his obligations in the deal. On Wednesday, Cleveland County District Judge Tom Lucas granted Switzer's motion for summary judgment. Switzer's attorney, Armando Rosell of Oklahoma City, says the ruling essentially disposes of the case. Abel's attorney, Stanley Ward of Norman, did not immediately return a phone message on Thursday.

Linebacker Austin Box could miss the start of Oklahoma's season because of a back injury that is expected to sideline him for three to six weeks. Coach Bob Stoops announced through a school spokesman Tuesday that Box had a "disc issue" flare up in his back that was not a result of contact during practice. Box, who was among those in the mix to replace departing starters Keenan Clayton and Ryan Reynolds, could be out for at least the Sooners' season opener Sept. 4 against Utah State and possibly through the first four games of the season.
"It's more reps for the other guys, more than anything. Nothing was solidified. Austin had been playing well but there's a number of guys that were in contention," defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. "We'll keep massaging that here over the next couple of weeks until we get started."
Venables said the injury would most directly mean more front-line practice time for Tom Wort, who missed last season with a knee injury.
Venables started training camp by talking about how he'd forgotten how many "nicks" Box had endured during his time at Oklahoma and saying he was hoping the player would be able to stay healthy this time around.
Box has started six games at middle and outside linebacker over the past two year but missed three games as a freshman in 2008 with two separate knee injuries and then missed two games last season due to injury.
"It's tough. He's frustrated," Venables said. "He's invested a lot in the program, and he's had a terrific offseason. He'll battle back. It's something that sounds like, being optimistic, that it's a manageable situation.
"He just needs a little bit of time to fight through it."
Box's setback provides the latest trouble spot for Oklahoma at linebacker.
During training camp last year, Mike Balogun was ruled ineligible and Wort suffered a season-ending knee injury. Reynolds had three knee surgeries, then missed time last year with a hamstring injury.
"I've gotten used to it," Venables said.

Sam Bradford is not about to rush it. he hopes his NFL career is a long one so if he starts this year is not a big deal. He didn't start Saturday night but he did get some action as the Rams hosted Minnesota in their first pre-season game. Bradford was sacked four times in a 28-7 loss to the Vikings on Saturday night. Sam completed four of his first five passes, but only two of his last eight while getting battered a bit by the Vikings' second-team defense. Bradford said after the game that the back felt ``great'' and coach Steve Spagnuolo said the quarterback was not on the injury report. Spagnuolo liked Bradford's zip on the ball on a couple of throws and was most impressed with the rookie's ability to think on his feet. St. Louis running back Steven Jackson is getting a light workload in the preseason to help his surgically repaired back for the regular season, and he dressed but didn't play a down in the St. Louis Rams' opener. The Pro Bowl running back's absence can't be helpful in the development of No. 1 draft pick Sam The Rams had only 150 yards total offense and got their lone touchdown on a 93-yard punt return by Danny Amendola.
Wide receivers Ryan Broyles of the University of Oklahoma and Damaris Johnson of the University of Tulsa were named to the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nation's top college player at the position. Broyles led the Sooners in most receiving categories in 2009, including catches (89), yards (1,120) and touchdowns (15). Johnson is one of six Conference USA wideouts on the list. He led the Golden Hurricane with 1,131 receiving yards in 2009. Ten semifinalists will be announced in mid-November and the winner will be named on Dec. 9.
It was a football weekend in sports. All three big state schools are underway and actually practicing as well as getting media day out of the way. The Tulsa Talons were also in action in the Arena Football playoffs on Ssaturday night. The Talons lost to Tampa Bay 68-38 but while that season ends, the college football year is just getting started. take a look below at the weekends football audio!
First-round draft pick Jermaine Gresham has agreed to a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, ending a holdout that kept the tight end away for six days of training camp. The former Oklahoma star is expected to join the team for its afternoon practice in Georgetown, Ky., on Tuesday. Despite missing eight practices, he still could win the starting job. The Bengals selected Gresham with the 21st pick expecting him to fill their biggest hole last season. Last year, first-round pick Andre Smith missed the first three preseason games in a contract holdout. The offensive lineman then broke his foot two days later.
Sam Bradford is a very rich young man. And so will his family, for a long time. The St. Louis Rams came to terms with Bradford on a huge six-year, $78 million contract with $50 million guaranteed. In the end the deal could be worth as much as $86 million. Bradford will report to camp right away.
Bradford's deal makes him the richest rookie in history, and probably the last first overall draft pick to receive a contract like that, pending the CBA negotiations. The Rams rookie QB got the maximum deal many expected. His agents were believed to be seeking anywhere from $46 to $50 million in guarantees. Details on the incentives are not being reported at this point, but you can imagine that they have to do with various performance measures, making the Pro Bowl, etc. One detail I have not heard anything about since news of the signing broke is a lockout clause that would guarantee Bradford some salary in 2011 if the NFL and the players union cannot agree on a new collective bargaining agreement thus forcing a lockout. The potential lockout was said to be a major part of rookie contract negotiations this year, so stay tuned for more info about how that figured into Bradford's deal...and hope there's not a lockout for obvious reasons.
Give both Bradford and the Rams credit. Bradford has been saying from the beginning that he wants to be here and the Rams committed themselves to making it happen, not that they had much choice.
As for why it took until the end of July to get a deal done with the first overall pick, it's hard to say. I suspect that some of the uncertainties the Rams faced this season with new ownership changes, potential lockout and the usual negotiating gaps pushed a deal further down the road, but who knows. I suspect we'll know more as time goes by. All that matters now is that the Rams have the future of their franchise in camp and ready to play today.

Oklahoma and Texas were among the final four teams on the podium as Big 12 media days came to an end in Dallas. The Sooners and Longhorns have mostly owned the league since its inception and the end of that domination doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.
Watch video from Dallas below and then read more about OU running back Demarco Murray and how Bob Stoops will miss having Mike Leach in the league.
Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray finally made it through a season without getting hurt last year. Now he wants to do something no Sooner not even his friend, Adrian Peterson has done: rush for 2,000 yards. Murray scored five touchdowns in his first college game in 2007, which must have looked familiar to OU fans who watched Peterson set an OU record with 1,925 yards when the Minnesota Vikings star was a freshman three years earlier. But injuries shortened Murray's first two seasons, and he's still chasing the man he followed around as a wide-eyed redshirt. He says Peterson told him ``to shoot for the moon.'' Murray needs 1,574 yards to catch Peterson on OU's all-time rushing list and 1,647 to tie career leader Billy Sims.
Bob Stoops says he will miss Mike Leach. The former Texas Tech coach, who was fired after claims that he mistreated a player with a concussion, spent a year with Stoops at OU before taking the Tech job a decade ago. Leach was known as much for a quirky style and penchant for pirates as he was for winning games with a fast-break passing offense few teams could stop. Stoops' Sooners were among the few who occasionally figured it out. Stoops says he's staying in touch with Leach. He said there was no sense of relief in not having to solve Leach's offense because he figures Texas Tech isn't losing much under Tom Tuberville, a defense-first coach who once went 13-0 at Auburn. Stoops says he expects Texas Tech to be a tough team.

Oklahoma reserve running back Mossis Madu has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn filed the misdemeanor charge Tuesday against Madu, who was stopped around 3:10 a.m. Saturday while driving near the university campus in Norman. The arresting officer wrote in an affidavit that he pulled Madu over after noticing the player's Jeep Commander cross the center line on Boyd Street and continue weaving. According to the affidavit, the 22-year-old Madu admitted he had been drinking and
his blood-alcohol content was measured at more than twice Oklahoma's legal limit. Team spokesman Kenny Mossman says the matter will be handled internally.

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has been named to the 2010 Davey O'Brien Award watch list released Wednesday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas. Given annually to the nation's top quarterback, the 2010 Davey O'Brien award winner will be announced December 9 at The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
After taking over under center for the Sooners in 2009 following Sam Bradford's season-ending shoulder injury, Jones led the nation's freshmen QBs in passing yards (3,198) and TD passes (26). The yardage figure also set an OU record for yards in a season by a freshman passer, surpassing the 3,121 by Bradford in 2007.
Jones ended the 2009 campaign by setting an Oklahoma bowl record with 418 yards along with three touchdowns in the 31-27 Brut Sun Bowl victory over Stanford. The Artesia, N.M., native also broke a program record with six passing TDs against Tulsa en route to being named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honorable mention by league's coaches and All-Big 12 Freshman by ESPN.com.
Oklahoma athletes have won the award four times including three times under Bob Stoops. Sam Bradford (2008) was the latest recepient of the award.

The University of Tulsa learned today that sophomore transfer Jameel Owens has been granted a transfer waiver by the NCAA, announced Head Football Coach Todd Graham.
Owens, a 6'3" receiver from Muskogee, Oklahoma, will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Hurricane beginning with the 2010 season.
TU officials were awaiting a ruling by the NCAA on his eligibility pending the waiver of the academic year in residence requirement. Owens transferred to TU from the University of Oklahoma following the fall 2009 semester. His first semester at TU was this past spring 2010. Owens asked for the waiver after moving closer to home due to his mother's health.
"We're excited for Jameel and his family. He's been through a really tough time the past year, and it's good to see this happen for the young man," said Graham. "Jameel has done a great job since he's been here at The University of Tulsa. We're going to work hard to make sure he is available for his family. From time to time, he's going to have to be able to go home, and being in Tulsa will help that. It was great to see how excited he was when he was informed about the NCAA's decision."
"Jameel has a tremendous amount of ability, great size and speed. But right now he's going through the developmental stage in learning our offensive system. We think he's a great talent and am anxious to see how he transitions forward," added Graham.
Owens had a red-shirt year last season for the Sooners. He played as a true freshman in 2008 and caught four passes for 44 yards.
Owens was a High School All-American as a senior at Muskogee (Okla.) High School, where he started for four years. He had career statistics of 167 receptions for 3,444 yards and 45 TDs in four seasons. Owens was a first-team all-state selection by both the Tulsa World and The Oklahoman.
As a prep senior, Owens was named one of the nation's top-50 prospects by Sports Illustrated/Takkle.com and was selected to both the US Army and Parade All-America teams. He had 59 receptions for 994 yards and 10 touchdowns during his senior campaign.

Right now it's all conjecture as fas a conference realingment goes. Having said that, there are some pieces that may be falling into place. Here are some of the best articles on what might happen and from several different angles
Andrea Adelson of the Orlando Sentinal has written one of the best articles so far about who goes where. Read that piece here and please be sure to leave your opinion below in our comments section.
Chip Brown of Orangebloods.com has been on the front end of this story from the beginning. See what he has to say.
Tony Barnhart of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has an interesting look from the Texas perspective.
Here is a west coast view from The Oregonian. They are less sure about what will happen next.

So it looks like conference realignment is about to happen in a big way. The whole thing is being led by Nebraska who may or may not be a member of the Big 10 by as early as Friday. So what do the folks who are involved in this whole thing think?
Lets start with Nebraska AD and former coaching legend Tom Osborne. Click here as Osborne says to not take this personally.
The Nebraska regents are the folks who will vote on this matter. Listen here as NU regent Jim McClung describes the pros and cons of both leagues.
And what about the rest of the Big 12? Are they upset, mad, confused? Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is not at all surprised about re-alignment.
Tags:
The dismantling of the Big 12 could begin as early as Friday. The Nebraska Board of Regents has amended the agenda for its previously scheduled Friday meeting to include a briefing from chancellor Harvey Perlman and athletic director Tom Osborne on conference alignment. The regents could then vote to leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten. Osborne said a decision has not been finalized, and he declined comment when asked whether the Big Ten had formally invited Nebraska to join the league. According to media reports, the Big 12 has given Nebraska and Missouri a Friday deadline to affirm their commitment to the league. The two schools are among the leading candidates should the Big Ten expand.
The Pac-10 board has given commissioner Larry Scott the authority to pursue any possible expansion for the conference. Scott spoke following the conclusion of the conference meetings in San Francisco Sunday. He says no final decision has been made on expansion, although he added that many different scenarios were discussed.
Click here to listen to what Scott had to say after the meetings had adjourned.
There have been reports that the conference could add as few as two teams or as many as six if it does expand.
The Big 10 was supposed to be the big dog when it came to conference movement and expansion. Someone might want to tell them that the Pac 10 may beat them to it. According to the Rivals' affiliate covering the Texas Longhorns, Orangeblood.com, the PAC 10 is prepared to invite six teams from the Big 12 to join their west coast party. The teams listed to be involved in the latest rumor are Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado.
The report is credited to Chip Brown, a former beat reporter covering the Texas Longhorns for the Dallas Morning News, which would seem to lend some credibility to the information. Granted, I have not done a thorough check on the track record of Brown, but at this point it is hard to believe anything that comes out about possible conference expansion and realignment news and rumors until we hear anything from the conferences or athletic directors. To further add validity to the latest news was the fact that Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe canceled his scheduled press conference for Thursday evening. He will not comment until tomorrow at the earliest.
The Big 10 had thought to be the driving force in conference re-alignment with rumors that they wanted to invite Missouri and Nebraska. Boise State is also in the rumor mill as they may be headed to the Mountain West. Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel says an offseason of turmoil for his basketball program has been ``challenging'' but he's able to see brighter days ahead. Capel spoke Tuesday night before the caravan in Tulsa, telling reporters he likes the direction his program is headed as it goes
through an NCAA investigation and a massive overhaul of its roster. Click here to hear what coach Capel had to say about his expectations for the upcoming year.
Capel said he couldn't comment on the ongoing investigation or how long it will take. Since the end of the Sooners' first losing season in nearly three decades, five underclassmen left school and Capel has signed nine recruits to replenish his roster. He has been interviewing candidates for two openings on his staff.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops believes the Sooners will end up in a good position no matter what happens with schools switching conferences. As a matter of fact, Coach Stoops was philisophical about the uproar. Hear what he had to say here.
OU womens coach Sherri Coale was on hand as well and her main topic was the post season womens tournaments. Coach Coale has a strong belief that the women should play their tournament in a different city than the men.
The Oklahoma House has honored Oklahoma City broadcaster Bob Barry, the voice of the Oklahoma Sooners. The House adopted a resolution Wednesday proclaiming ``Bob Barry Sr. Day'' in Oklahoma. Barry studied journalism at the University of Oklahoma and became the voice of the Sooners in 1961, having been hand-picked by former OU coach Bud Wilkinson. Barry broadcast Sooner football and basketball games through 1972, Oklahoma State University football and basketball games from 1973 until 1990 and University of Tulsa basketball games in 1973 and 1974 before returning to OU in 1991 to broadcast football and basketball games. Barry was sports director for more than 25 years at Oklahoma City television station WKY, Oklahoma's first television station which is now known as KFOR. He retired from KFOR in 1997.
Bob Stoops and his guys picked up two more verbal commitments from Houston area teammates on Monday. Defensive end Nathan Hughes and tight end Max Stevenson both say they want to be Sooners. The two are teammates in Klein, Texas.
Both players were at the OU spring game and are good friends as well.
Stevenson is a 6'6" 227 pound TE who has been getting attention from schools like Arizona, LSU, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M.
Now we wait. The Spring game for Oklahoma is in the books and it went well, fort the White team! Landry Jones completed 17 of 34 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns to lead the White team to a 23-0 win over the Red in Oklahoma's Spring Football Game, Saturday.
Notes provided by Oklahoma media relations. Find more at SoonerSports.com.
A crowd of 16,481 braved the steady rain and chilly temperatures to watch the event.
Jones, the first pick in the team's Thursday draft, tossed scoring strikes of five yards to tight end Trent Ratterree and 31 yards to Kenny Stills to go with three Jimmy Stevens field goals.
"Landry is gaining maturity and you can see that he's more sure of himself," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops. "He made some nice throw and kept moving his team down the field.
The Sooner coach was mostly happy with his team's performance.
"The weather conditions were bad so when you factor in those things, I thought we had a solid day," he said. "It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was good overall. I wish we could have had a nicer day, but I wish that more for the fans than anybody."
Stevens started the scoring with 7:11 left in the first quarter on a 39-yard field goal to cap a 13-play, 53-yard drive.
He tacked on a 31-yarder with 2:14 left in the first frame to up the score to 6-0 before Jones and tight end Trent Ratterree hooked up on a five-yard touchdown pass with 6:14 left in the second quarter. It came at the end of a 19-play, 72-yard drive. Stevens added the extra point to extend the lead to 13-0.
Stevens then made a 27-yard field goal with 3:45 remaining in the half and the White held a 16-0 advantage at the intermission.
The lone score of the second half came with 6:13 left in the game when Jones and Stills hooked up on the 31-yard play.
Redshirt freshman fullback Marshall Musil paced the White's running attack with 29 carries for 92 yards. OU's top returning rusher, DeMarco Murray, saw his only duty in catching punts.
Stills, who transferred to OU in January after completing his fall semester of high school, led all receivers with six grabs for 84 yards and was impressive in his Sooner debut.
Defensive players were not allowed to hit the quarterbacks and were awarded sacks when they touched the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Jeremy Beal racked up five sacks as a member of the White team.
The leading tackler in the game was the Red team linebacker Jaydan Bird.
The White team will be the beneficiary of the Winner Dinner Monday night. As the winning team, its participants will feast on steak. The losing Red squad will dine one hot dogs and baked beans.
OU will hold the last of its 15 spring practices for this year on Monday afternoon.

Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy, Russell Okung and Trent Williams are among the 16 players who have accepted invitations to be in New York for the upcoming NFL Draft.
All four players are expected to be among the top picks in the draft on April 22. Bradford and McCoy are both expected to be among the top three players selected. Because the NFL has extended the draft to three days, the first two being held during prime time, the league has increased the number of invites. The 12 other players that accepted invitations are running backs C.J. Spiller and Jahvid Best; cornerbacks Joe Haden and Brandon Ghee; tackle Brian Bulaga; defensive tackles Lamarr Houston, Jared Odrick and Dan Williams; defensive end Derrick Morgan; receiver Demaryius Thomas and safety Eric Berry.
Bradford will also be a part of a group of interviews on ESPN (Cox able channel 25) this week. Bradford and three other quarterbacks will be interviewed by former Tampa bay and Oakland head coach and current analyst Jon Gruden. The interview with Bradford will be Thursday during the 6pm Sportscenter.
Former Oklahoma basketball player Willie Warren and current OU offensive tackle Donald Stephenson were arrested for outstanding warrants over the weekend.
Both were taken into custody Saturday for outstanding municipal warrants, according to a Norman police department arrest report .Warren declrded for the draft earlier this month and is no longer with the Sooners. Stephenson is in the mix for a starting position at left tackle.
Stephenson was projected as the starting left tackle when OU's spring season began. The sophomore was suspended for an undisclosed reason and missed the entire 2009 season.
Warren averaged a team-best 16.3 points per game during the 2009-10 season, but missed Oklahoma's final eight games with an ankle injury. He had surgery on the ankle March 3. He also missed time due to illness.
Sam Bradford had a GREAT pro day. Almost every "expert" says Bradford will be the first pick in the upcoming draft and almost all of them think its a good idea. But as always, there is someone who disagrees. Read why this guy thinks the Rams would be making a BIG mistake by taking Bradford.
Personally, I think the guy is crazy...but hey.....that's just me!

Sam Bradford's first public throwing exhibition since he had season-ending shoulder surgery went off without a snag. The potential No. 1 NFL draft pick completed all but one of his five dozen passes during a workout Monday on his college campus in Oklahoma. Bradford went 13 for 13 during a warmup session and then missed
only one of 50 passes in the workout that followed. He completed a handful of passes 30 yards or longer, including a post pattern that went more than 50 yards. General manager Billy Devaney and coach Steve Spagnuolo were among the contingent sent by the St. Louis Rams, who have the first pick in next month's draft. Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary and Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren also watched.

The great thing about college football is......it's become nearly a year round thing. Once the season ends there's recruiting and then a small dead period before spring ball. Since the spring is here, that means spring games are right around the corner.
Oklahoma has put tickets on sale for the annual Red-White Game, schedled for April 17 at 2 p.m. From now through April 13, ticckets will be $5. After April 13 tickets will be $10. Sam Bradford will attend the NFL combine next week in Indianapolis, Indiana, but will not participate in drills. Bradford said he will go to the combine to be interviewed and undergo physicals by NFL personnel as the draft approaches in April. But Sam won't do anything physical at the combine, instead, he will hold his own pro day. Bradford will host all interested NFL teams on OU pro day March 25th. During the visit, Bradford will undergo medicals, interviews and the wonderlic testing as well. Bradofrd is currently recovering from a shoulder that was injured on 2 seperate occasions during the football season. Bradford had his throwing shoulder seperated during the first game of the season against BYU in Arlington, Texas. He returned 3 weeks later to play against Baylor without incident, but was reinjured in the game at the Cotton Bowl against Texas. Bradford has not thrown a pass since. All indications are Bradford is in full recovery mode after his surgery by reknowned Doctor James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama 2 months ago. In fact, many folks feel the March 25th date is very agressive comeback deadline. Bradford is projected to be a top 10 draft choice.

A University of Oklahoma football player has been released from jail after being arrested for allegedly urinating on bar stools outside a Bricktown nightclub. According to an Oklahoma City police report, Austin Box was taken into custody about 2 a.m. Saturday on a disorderly conduct complaint. He was booked into the Oklahoma County jail and later released. The report says Box was standing below the entrance to the Skky Bar when he walked to a corner on a balcony and urinated. Police say Box told them he was made to leave the bar and that ``he had to go.'' A March 29 court date has been set for the 21-year-old
linebacker, who has 70 career tackles. Oklahoma says it's an "internal matter" and will handled as such.

It's an average day in the winter. You're just hanging out at your house when you hear sirens in your area. Next thing you know, there is someone trying to break into your house and Police cars are everywhere. That was the day Oklahoma running backs coach Cale Gundy had yesterday. A high-speed chase that began in Moore at a credit union ended in Norman after two men attempted to break into Gundy's house.
According to police, one person was trying to cash a bogus check when an off-duty police officer got suspicious. When the officer ran the tags on the suspects car, he found it was stolen. When the officer tried to approach the car, the three people inside took off and lef Police on the chase.
When the SUV stopped, one person inside was arrested and the other two were taken after they tried to break into Coach Gundy's house.
A elementary school near the arrests was placed on lockdown as a result of the pursuit.

Oklahoma has added a prep wide receiver from California to its football recruiting class. The Sooners on Thursday announced the signing of Kenny Stills of Encinitas, Calif., who played for La Costa Canyon High School. The university had been waiting for clearance from the NCAA relative to Stills' eligibility before announcing his signing. Oklahoma received that clearance Thursday. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he's pleased that everything is in place for Stills to join the Sooners. Stills is considered one of the nation's best prep receivers. The addition of the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Stills gives Oklahoma 29 players in its 2010 recruiting class.

Having good football coaches means somtimes losing good football coaches. Bob Stoops knows all about that as several of his assistants have gone on to be head coaches. The next guy in that group may be offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. WIlson was said to be a finalist for the Lousiana Tech job (that one went to Arizona assistant Sonny Dykes) but others have come calling. East Carolina is said to have interviewed Wilson but he isn't the only guy on the list. Jacksonville assistant and former Alabama head coach Mike Shula, Texas Tech interim head coach Ruffin McNeill, and Pirates offensive coordinator Steve Shankweiler are also in gthe mix.
All these folks are looking to replace Skip Holtz who left Greenville last week to bew the new head coach at South Florida. .
Wilson is from North Carolina (Maiden, N.C.,) he also played his college football atUNC.
WIlson has been at OU since 2002 and has been the offensive coordinator since 2006.

All-American defensive backs Eric Berry of Tennessee and Joe Haden of Florida are among a record-tying 53 non-seniors eligible for this year's NFL draft. The list was released by the league Tuesday. It includes Heisman winner Sam Bradford, along with Oklahoma teammates Dominique Franks, Jermaine Gresham and Gerald McCoy. Also on the list is wide receiver Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State. The 53 players match the previous high in 2008 but is a lower number than many projections. With the NFL and the players union in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement and the potential for a rookie wage scale being implemented, more juniors were expected to declare for this year's draft.

Norman police records indicate the 26-year-old Dvoracek was arrested around 1 a.m. Saturday at Seven47, a restaurant near the University of Oklahoma.
Dvoracek appeared in 13 games in four seasons with the Bears after being drafted in the fourth round in 2006. He was placed on the waived/injured list in August because of a torn ACL in his right knee.
While at Oklahoma, he was temporarily dismissed from the Sooners after an altercation at a bar in Norman. He was reinstated after anger-management and alcohol-related counseling.
Norman police Capt. Darry Stacy says an arrest report won't be available until Tuesday.

Oklahoma Running Back DeMarco Murray had decided to return to school for his senior season. Murray rushed for 705 yards on 171 carries with 8 touchdowns in 2009. He has 2,471 yards and 35 touchdowns in his career.
"I felt I wasn't done here," Murray told ESPN. "I still had some things I wanted to get accomplished with my teammates and become a better player as well."
Although this is probably the right move for Murray, it comes as a surprise to some because of the injuries that projected first round picks Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham suffered this season, but Murray had another good reason to stay.
"I won't have to share carries anymore so I will get to play a lot more than I have here and be the guy," Murray said. "My mom wanted me to walk [graduate] as well."

Former Tulsa Union and Oklahoma cornerback Dominique Franks has notified Sooner coaches that he plans to forgo his senior season of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft. OU Head Coach Bob Stoops made that announcement today.
"We wish Dom all the best and I hope at some point that he'll also be back to complete his degree," Stoops said.
Story provided by University of Oklahoma atheltic media relations. See more at soonersports.com.
Franks told ESPN he feels confident he can shut down one side of a field and has been told he would be a second round pick.
Franks played in 39 games during his career with 27 starting assignments. He wraps up his career with 60 tackles and six interceptions. The Tulsa native scored three touchdowns during his career, two on interception returns and another on a fumble return. He also returned 29 punts for 346 yards.
Last season, Franks started all 13 games. He compiled 42 tackles and two interceptions. He was named All-Big 12 by the conference's coaches.

Broyles finished with 156 yards receiving and set Oklahoma's single-game record with 13 receptions in front of a Sun Bowl record crowd of 53,713. Jones completed 30 of 51 and connected with Broyles on TD strikes of 30, 13 and 6 yards.
Gerhart, who led the nation with 1,736 yards rushing, ran for 133 and scored two TDs in the first half.
Oklahoma (8-5) rallied with 14 straight points in the third quarter, then held on after Patrick O'Hara missed a 32-yard field goal try with 3:19 remaining. Stanford (8-5) got a final opportunity but turned it over on downs, starting a celebration for fans wearing crimson and cream.
Broyles also had 47 yards returning four punts. But he fumbled a punt that helped Stanford draw closer early in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinal pulled to 31-27 on a 22-yard field goal by Nate Whitaker, capping a series that began when Broyles mishandled a punt. Oklahoma protested because Stanford's Johnson Bademosi hit Broyles just as the ball arrived, but officials gave possession to the Cardinal.
Gerhart found the running tough against the nation's No. 7 rushing defense. He carried 32 times, averaged 4.2 per attempt, and his longest run was a 26-yard gain in the fourth quarter.
Stanford's Tavita Pritchard, who threw three passes in four games this season, made his 20th career start because standout freshman Andrew Luck wasn't ready after surgery to repair a broken right index finger. Pritchard was 8 of 19 for 118 yards.
Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh had indicated a day earlier that Luck, who threw for 2,575 yards passing, might play, but Luck stood on the sidelines wearing street clothes and a headset.
Jones took over as Oklahoma's quarterback after former Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford was injured in an opening loss to BYU. An injury-plagued season included the loss of defensive tackle Adrian Taylor, who left the Sun Bowl with his left wrapped in an air cast.
Stanford was making its first bowl appearance since losing to Georgia Tech in the 2001 Seattle Bowl.

"I think it says a lot for the matchup, as well as the Stanford and Oklahoma fans who are making the trip to El Paso," said Bernie Olivas, executive director of the Sun Bowl Association. "A lot of factors have led to this sellout. We would not be in this position without the two schools and our local fan base. El Paso is ready for a good game."
The Sun Bowl recorded 22 sellouts at Kidd Field from 1938 to 1962. In 1963, the game was moved to Sun Bowl Stadium. The game sold out nine times from 1963 to 1982.
In the first year of the Sun Bowl Association's new sponsorship agreement with Helen of Troy, a record 51,288 fans watched the 2004 Vitalis Sun Bowl between Arizona State and Purdue. One year later, a capacity crowd of 50,426 fans witnessed the 2005 Vitalis Sun Bowl which saw the highest scoring game ever as UCLA outran Northwestern, 50-38.
Helen of Troy changed the brand of the game from Vitalis to Brut beginning with the 2006 edition of the game. Including this year's sellout, during Helen of Troy's six-year tenure as title sponsor, the Sun Bowl has been at 99 percent capacity and recorded three sellouts. It is the best six-year period in Sun Bowl history in terms of attendance.
The game will be broadcast live nationally in high definition on CBS for the 42nd consecutive year.

Bob Stoops has to feel more like a doctor than a coach. The Sooners have had such bad luck with injuries, especially on the offensive line and now they might be forced to start a fourth player at center.
On Monday Stoops said starting center Brian Lepak sprained his knee over the weekend in practice and could miss the Sun Bowl.
"He just got rolled up. We were in our inside drill, and somebody -- we have knee braces on and all -- just rolled into him," Stoops said. "It's a sprain. Unsure of the degree. We'll just have to see.
Williams, a consensus All-American at tackle, has never played a game at center but he has practiced there at times.
The move could prove to be an opportunity for Williams, who is hoping to be a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
During the preseason, projected starting center Ben Habern had by back inflammation so the Sooners moved tight end Brody Eldridge to starting center. Habern returned the following week, and palyed 10 games before he was hurt at Texas Tech.
Eldridge is also out with a season-ending neck injury.
As for how many injuries there have been for Ou in the offensive line, Bob Stoops said "I don't count them, I'm done counting. "Too many."

Just a couple of weeks ago, Oklahoma running back DeMarco Murray was firm on a decision to return for his senior season at Oklahoma. Yet on Wednesday, he said something a little different. Murray said "I have to take the opportunity to at least think about it, and not put a stamp on it and say I'm coming back next year,"
Murray added "I haven't made any decisions yet. I'm still thinking about it. It's been in my mind every day. I just have to make the best decision for myself and if I do come back it has to be for the right reasons and to help this team win a national championship."
Murray has been very productive in Norman, scoring 44 career touchdowns but he has had some trouble in his career with injuries.
Underclassmen are allowed to submit paperwork to the NFL to receive a draft grade. That grade can help players get a much better idea of where they might be picked. The grades are not binding.

Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy became OU's 66th consensus All-American when the Sporting News provided his third All-America team honor Tuesday.
The NCAA recognizes the lists of All-Americans selected by the Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Sporting News, and the Walter Camp Football Foundation to determine consensus All-Americans. At least three of these organizations have to select a player in order for him to receive the "consensus" honor.
Notes provided by Oklahoma athletic media relations. Get more at soonersports.com.
McCoy was earlier named to the Football Writers and Walter Camp All-American teams.
McCoy is the 37th Sooner player to earn All-America honors in more than one season. He was named to All-America teams by The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated after the 2008 season.
McCoy was the target of frequent double-team blocking schemes during the 2009 season but still tallied 31 tackles, including 14.5 for losses. He also registered five sacks and a team-high 10 quarterback hurries.
McCoy broke up two passes, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble. During the season he broke the school record for most consecutive starts by a defensive lineman. That total now stands at 38.
McCoy and his teammates will play their season finale on Dec. 31 against Stanford in the 76th Brut Sun Bowl.
The Brut Sun Bowl will be played on Thursday, Dec. 31, at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. Kickoff is set for Noon (MST).
Tickets for Troops can be added to an existing order or denoted at the time an order is placed. Fans who are not attending the game, but would still like to participate in the program are encouraged to do so.
Members of the OU staff will distribute the tickets to military personnel. Most are likely to go to those serving at Fort Bliss, an Army installation near El Paso with an approximate base population of 8,200.
Tickets are $40 each. Orders will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. To donate tickets or purchase personal tickets, fans can order online at SoonerSports.com or call 800-456-GoOU or 405-325-2424.

Cornerback Dominique Franks plans to return for his senior season at Oklahoma.
Franks said after practice Wednesday that he had submitted paperwork to the NFL to evaluate where he would be drafted, but he plans to play for the Sooners next season no matter what projection he gets back. Franks was selected to the All-Big 12 second-team this season after making 42 tackles and two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. He was also the Sooners' No. 2 punt returner, behind receiver Ryan Broyles. Also Wednesday, linebacker Travis Lewis said he had submitted
paperwork to evaluate his NFL draft standing. Defensive end Jeremy Beal said he wouldn't make any decision about his future until after Oklahoma plays Stanford in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.

It's been a while since Stanford went to a bowl game and now they have to do it without their quarterback. Cardinal signal caller Andrew Luck had surgery on a finger on his right hand and more than likely will miss the SunBowl.
The surgery will take at least two to three weeks to recover from, a tight fit for a game on Decdmber 31st.
Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh says if Luck isn't back, senior Tavita Pritchard will probably start the game. Pritchard started 19 games the past two seasons.
Luck has completed 162 of 288 passes for 2575 yards and 13 touchdowns as well as four interceptions.

Stanford (8-4, 6-3 Pac-10) finished tied for second in the Pac-10 Conference and is the only school to beat league champion Oregon. This is Stanford's third appearance in El Paso, after winning the 1977 and 1996 Sun Bowls.
"Our players, coaches and staff are truly honored to accept the Sun Bowl Committee's invitation," said Harbaugh. "Stanford football is privileged to join the proud tradition of the Sun Bowl and the wonderful people of El Paso. We move forward with humble hearts, unwavering focus and relentless preparation."
Oklahoma (7-5, 5-3 Big 12) finished tied for third in the Big 12 Conference South Division after upending intrastate rival Oklahoma State, 27-0, in the annual Bedlam Game. This is Oklahoma's third appearance in the Sun Bowl, after winning the 1981 and 1993 Sun Bowls.
"We appreciate the invitation from the Brut Sun Bowl and are anxious to make the trip to El Paso. We look forward to a number of our fans being there as well," said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. "In Stanford we are facing a fine program. Like many others, we have been impressed by the job Coach Harbaugh and his team have done this season and we understand the quality of the opponent we'll be facing."
The 2009 Brut Sun Bowl will mark the fifth time these two teams have meet, but the first time in 25 years. Oklahoma holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series that spanned from 1978 to 1984.
"We are excited about the matchup and what it means to El Paso," said Bernie Olivas, executive director of the Sun Bowl Association. "Stanford has really caught the nation's attention and Oklahoma is one the nation's premier programs. This should make for an exciting matchup."
Stanford is led by senior running back Toby Gerhart, who leads the nation in total rushing yards with 1,736 yards and scoring with 26 rushing touchdowns. Gerhart is the ninth national rushing yardage leader to participate in the Brut Sun Bowl. Others include LaDainian Tomlinson (TCU), Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh), Bob Gaiters (New Mexico State), Pervis Atkins (New Mexico State), Jim Crawford (Wyoming), Fred Wendt (UTEP) and Rudy "Little Doc" Mobley (Hardin-Simmons).
Stanford's offense is averaging 441.4 yards per game, which ranks 13th nationally. The Cardinal offense is paced by freshman quarterback Andrew Luck, a native of Houston, who is averaging 244.1 yards per game of total offense. Luck's primary targets are Ryan Whalen and Chris Owusu.
"Stanford University is very proud to be representing the Pacific-10 Conference in the Brut Sun Bowl," said Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby. "This bowl has a rich tradition and I have personally enjoyed several visits to El Paso and the Sun Bowl. We are very excited to be participating in the game with Oklahoma. Coach Stoops and his staff do an exceptional job with their football program and we look forward to the competition. I want to offer my congratulations to Coach Harbaugh, his staff and our football team, especially our seniors, on completing an excellent season. They have all worked hard and are truly deserving of playing in this prestigious bowl game."
Oklahoma is led by freshman quarterback Landry Jones, a native of Artesia, N.M., who is averaging 244.5 yards per game of total offense. The Sooners rank 28th nationally in total offense, averaging 419.4 yards per game. Oklahoma is paced on the ground by the running back tandem of DeMarco Murray (61.6 yards per game) and Chris Brown (58.6 yards per game). Ryan Broyles paces the Sooner receiving corps with 87.6 yards per game, while racking up 142.3 all-purpose yards an outing.
The Sooner defense ranks seventh nationally in total defense (273.5 yards), scoring defense (13.5 points) and rushing defense (88.58). Linebacker Travis Lewis has anchored the defense this year with 100 tackles, while Jeremy Beal has 11 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss this season.
"The Sun Bowl is a game rich in tradition and we appreciate the opportunity to play there. It is known for its first-class treatment of fans and teams. The renovated Sun Bowl Stadium is a scenic place to watch. The setting is picturesque and something our fans will enjoy," said Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione. "Stanford had an outstanding season and we appreciate the quality of their program."
Stanford will be making its 22nd bowl appearance and its first since 2001. The Cardinal are 9-10-1 (.452) in bowl games. This is Oklahoma's 43rd overall bowl appearance and 11th straight under Stoops. The Sooners are 24-17-1 (.600) in bowl games.
The 76th Annual Brut Sun Bowl is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 31 at noon (MST). CBS Sports will broadcast the game for the 42nd consecutive year, which is the longest running partnership between a network and a bowl game. Ticket prices for the game are $15, $20, $30, $40, $50 and $60.

Oklahoma State may have had a BCS bowl bid on the line as well as bragging rights in the annual in-state rivalry.
It looked more like Oklahoma who had something to play for. The Sooners DeMarco Murray ran for two touchdowns, Ryan Broyles returned a punt 88 yards for a score and Oklahoma knocked Oklahoma State out of contention for its first BCS appearance with a 27-0 win Saturday.
"The only good thing about this is it counts as one loss, and I told the team that," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. "To move forward, you have to let go. This team has accomplished a lot. We have an opportunity to go play in a very good bowl game. Where that'll be, I'm not sure."
With representatives of the Fiesta and Orange bowls watching, the Cowboys (9-3, 6-2 Big 12) fell completely flat with their worst offensive performance of the decade. Oklahoma State was shut out for the first time since 2005 by an Oklahoma defense coming off its worst outing of the year in a 41-13 loss at Texas Tech last week.
"That's the way you finish a season," defensive captain Gerald McCoy said. "We've still got a bowl game to play, but that's the way you come back and finish out."
Zac Robinson threw for only 44 yards on 9-for-21 passing after missing last week's game with injuries to his head and shoulder. He was pulled in the fourth quarter with his lowest passing total since taking over as the starting quarterback early in the 2007 season.
"Zac wasn't 100 percent, but that's certainly not an excuse for what happened," Gundy said.
Brandon Weeden, who led a second-half comeback in last week's win against Colorado, finally replaced Robinson after Broyles' punt return put Oklahoma up 27-0 midway through the fourth quarter. The crowd started chanting "Overrated!" after he let Quinn Sharp's punt sail over his head, then fielded the bouncing ball, turned around and raced for the score.
Oklahoma State didn't have a single first down in the second half and finished with only 109 yards of total offense.
"I guess I'd have to say that most of the game is the physical aspect, and they were the most dominating force on the field," Cowboys left tackle Russell Okung said. "And you see the results of that right now."
Broyles, who originally committed to Oklahoma State but instead chose to play for the Sooners, had 103 yards receiving to go with his 209 yards on punt returns. Patrick O'Hara, the walk-on who had never played football before taking over as Oklahoma's kicker two weeks ago, hit field goals from 24 and 19 yards.
The Sooners (7-5, 5-3) have won seven in a row in the Bedlam rivalry and 30 straight home games, the longest streak in the Bowl Subdivision.
"It was a definite way to come out on a high note in this Bedlam game. Everyone was talking about how we were breaking their season or whatnot, but really we were making our season more than anything," Broyles said.
Broyles' 47-yard reception set up Murray's first scoring run, a 13-yarder that he punctuated by leaping from the 4-yard line out of bounds past where the goal line would have extended. He also had a 12-yard TD run following Robinson's interception, which safety Jonathan Nelson returned 37 yards.
The shutout was preserved when tight end Trent Ratterree tracked down Justin Gent from behind on a fumble return in the final minute, stripped the ball and recovered it. That allowed Oklahoma to run out the clock on its first shutout against a ranked team since a 12-0 win against Texas in 2004.
The Sooners have three shutouts in a season for the first time since 1986, when they had five.
"When he did that, I was like, `Yes! Thank you, man.' We worked so hard to keep them with that goose egg, and he made a big play for us," McCoy said.
Oklahoma's Landry Jones finished 20 for 37 for 224 yards. He lost a fumble in the first quarter after a 59-yard punt return by Broyles set up first-and-goal at the 7-yard line.
A season riddled with injuries continued for the Sooners, who played without left tackle Trent Williams. The NFL prospect was the only player on Oklahoma's offense who had started the first 11 games, and his absence left the team with only one of its starters on the line. Tight end Eric Mensik made his first career start on the offensive line to replace Williams.
Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, also out for the season following shoulder surgery, appeared in a videotaped message before the game to thank fans and encourage them to support the Sooners. And receiver Corey Wilson, who injured his back in an offseason car accident, climbed out of his wheelchair and took a few steps with the aid of a walker at the end of Oklahoma's senior day ceremony.
Neither team -- or the referees, for that matter -- gave the fans much to cheer for early on as the game was marred by fumbles and constant replay reviews, including one that required a second look for officials to get the down and distance correct. But while the Sooners made up for their early mistakes, OSU never got anything going.
"We certainly would have liked to have had the opportunity to be in that BCS picture, but we can't do anything about that now," Gundy said. "As I said earlier, at the end of the year, the bowl representatives in this league are going to pick teams that have competed for 12 games. You've got to play 12 games."

We all know that Mike Gundy played at, and now coaches at Oklahoma State. We also know his brother Cale played at, and now coaches at Oklahoma. So when Bedlam week and Thanksgiving arrive at the same time, how does the family handle that? You can get a peek inside the family dining room when Mike Gundy's weekly news conference is interrupted by a phone call from his brother!
Gundy says Robinson should be at ``full speed'' in practice this week and play against the Sooners (6-5, 4-3) in the annual Bedlam rivalry game. Gundy said Robinson's main obstacle will be ``working through soreness.'' A win by the Cowboys (9-2, 6-1) could earn them an at-large bid to their first BCS bowl in school history.
Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops saysit's doubtful starting middle linebacker Ryan Reynolds will play in the Sooners' rivalry game this week against No. 11 Oklahoma State. Reynolds strained his hamstring in the Sooners' 41-13 loss at Texas Tech on Saturday and was replaced by Austin Box. The Sooners will also be without center Ben Habern, who had surgery Saturday night after breaking his left leg. Stoops said Monday on the Big 12 coaches' conference call that Habern's recovery is expected to take three months. He's the third offensive lineman to suffer a season-ending injury this season for Oklahoma. Stoops says defensive tackle Adrian Taylor is expected to play against the Cowboys with an undisclosed injury.
Mike Gundy
Opening statement
"First off, I'd like to congratulate Coach Smith. The men's cross country team won the national championship today. I think that's a great accomplishment and I know he's done a tremendous job here and I want to congratulate him. Secondly, from what I understand, John Rohde is doing better, health wise. I'm glad that John's doing better. John had a tough night on Thursday night. I went and saw him in the hospital Friday night and I told him I didn't know he loved OSU so much; he took that game so seriously. I'm glad John's doing better."
On facing Oklahoma
"Obviously it's Bedlam week. It's a very exciting time in the state. I know that our players are looking forward to preparing this week looking forward to a game on Saturday. We gave them the weekend off and they reported back in today and we're on normal schedule. We're looking forward to preparation and playing a good football team."
On what he sees from Oklahoma
"Defensively they're very fast and tackle well and put pressure on you. Gerald McCoy is a big time player and Jeremy Beal is a very good player, Quinton Carter is a good tackler. Those corners on the edge out there, they make a lot of plays. When you watch them on tape, offensively you have to have a really good plan."
On what he expects to see from Oklahoma
"They're going to blitz a lot; a lot of zone pressure is what they've done. That's what I expect them to do, a lot of blitzing. That's what they like to do from what it looks like on tape. They still run the ball very well and make plays on defense. Offensively, obviously they've had a quarterback change, which has changed them somewhat. But they have two good running backs - guys that can make you miss and make plays. Broyles makes plays on the perimeter. It should be very interesting, special teams will be very important. We've got to be sound in special times and take care of plays there. We've got to take care of the football and eliminate big plays on defense, tackle in space; essentially it's what the game comes down to. Our players and coaches are very excited and looking forward to
