(Tulsa, OK) - The Broken Arrow boa bandit is bagged.  21 year old Ryan Haney has been arrested for allegedly stealing six snakes from Safari's Sanctuary on Monday night.

Tulsa County Sheriff's Sergeant Shannon Clark says Haney was found at his parent's house in the west part of Tulsa County on Tuesday.  He says Haney didn't give up peacefully.

Clark says deputies first talked to Haney outside the home and determined he already had a warrant for his arrest.  He says at that point Haney ran inside, pulled a an air conditioner from a second story window and attempted to throw and eight foot constrictor out of it while deputies were watching from below.

Clark says Haney then came down with a pool cue.  He says Haney did drop it when deputies pulled their less than lethal weapons but proceeded to get into a hand to hand scuffle with them.  He says Haney was eventually subdued by a deputy using a TASER.

Clark says after Haney was handcuffed he continued to struggle and one of their sergeants received a cut from broken glass at the home.  He says the sergeant was treated at the scene.

At Safari's Sanctuary they're very happy to have the snakes back.  The sanctuary's Frank Gaddy says one of the snakes may have taken a bite out of crime on its own.

Gaddy says their newest specimen bit Haney a few times.  He says that's what worried them about having the snakes on the loose because he says they knew "That one had issues."

Gaddy wants to point out that the snake that did the biting is on display but they don't have it interact with the public.

Gaddy says they believe Haney worked at the sanctuary as part of his community service requirement for a previous arrest.  He says they have not recovered the safe that was also stolen.

Haney is being held in the Tulsa County Jail on numerous charges including Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.

(Tulsa, OK) - A suspect was shot and killed by Tulsa County Sheriff's Deputies Friday morning as they were serving a high-risk search warrant for marijuana and methamphetamine inside a biker club at Dawson Road and Kingston Place in Northeast Tulsa.

Tulsa County Sergeant Shannon Clark said the person was face down on the ground with his hands underneath him when he grabbed a gun from a nearby bookshelf.

"As he grabbed the gun, he turned it in the direction of the officers," Clark said.  "And we believe at this time, 3 of our officers fired simultaneously."

The Tulsa Police Department's Bomb Squad was called briefly to the scene after deputies spotted a suspicious-looking cable and a sign that said "No Cell Phones in This Area", leading them to believe there could be an explosive device, but none were found.

TURLEY, Ok. - A Turley man shot a burglar that he allegedly found in the act of looting his house. Tulsa County Sheriff's Captain John Bowman says the man was shot just before ten last night. Bass says, "Burglar was carrying a sword that belonged to a homeowner. Approached the homeowner. That homeowner told him to stop, pulled out his gun. The guy didn't stop. Shot him."  Bowman says the homeowner had a permit to carry the gun and was not arrested. Friday afternoon the Sheriff's office released the name of the slain suspected intruder. He is identified as 20 year old Billy Jean Tiffey III.

(Tulsa, OK) - A drug overdose is the suspected cause of a death at the Tulsa jail this week.  26 year old Bess Morgan Winfrey-Woodruff turned herself in Tuesday night.  She was wanted for one outstanding felony warrant for Application to Revoke and a City of Tulsa warrant for No Seatbelt.  Sergeant Shannon Clark with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says Winfrey-Woodruff was found unresponsive in a minimum security female unit in the jail early Wednesday morning.  Other inmates say the Winfrey-Woodruff had produced prescription pills that she was taking and offering to other inmates.  Clark says those inmates say she hid what was left in a body cavity.  He says they believe that is how she smuggled them into the jail because she was searched thoroughly after being booked.  Winfrey-Woodruff's body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for further investigation.

TULSA, Ok. - Officials in Jenks, Bixby and Glenpool are tossing around the idea of having the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office operate their police departments. Officials say the cities would pay the sheriff's office for their service on a contract basis, the same as they pay an outside company to manage their wastewater treatment plant. The city leaders say the plan would be for all of their police officers to work for the sheriff, which would be a cost-saving measure for each city.

TULSA, Ok. - AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Richard Dowdell reports Tulsa County Deputies found a major dump site for meth trash. Tulsa County Sheriff's Sergeant Dave Roberts says it was behind an Arkansas River levee on the west side. "There was the remnants of a meth lab, but it was extremely large compared to the normal meth lab trash that we find," Roberts said. The trash included more than a hundred plastic bottles, hoses and fuel containers. Sergeant Roberts thinks the site's been used for a dump by meth cooks for months.

(Tulsa, OK) - Elves with badges.  The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office has its annual Operation Santa's Helpers underway.  Chief Deputy Tim Albin says they have their deputies and reserve deputies conducting saturation patrols in an effort to both prevent thefts and catch the thieves that seem to be very active this time of year.  "You'll be surprised we'll often times catch these guys roaming around neighborhoods where they don't belong and they're looking for a target.  And so sometimes we can intervene prior to a burglary taking place."  Albin says they also stop and talk with homeowners when they see things that are inviting to thieves like open garage doors and presents stacked against windows as they try to keep crimes to a minimum.

TULSA, Ok. - AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Steve Berg reports now that the idea of using the Sheriff's Office to supplement Tulsa Police, now what? The Mayor's Chief of Staff Terry Simonson says there was no timetable on putting the plan in motion. And that if it happens, it will be awhile. "We've still got six months left in this budget year and the sheriff has a budget, as well. So, if anything were to happen, it could happen perhaps in the middle or so of 2010," he says. The Sheriff's Office says if the city needs help now, they can do it and work out the logistics later. One idea is to have deputies patrol some of the city's outlying areas.

Sheriff says he won't pay city bill

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The Tulsa County sheriff says he won't pay a $500,000 bill that he received from the city of Tulsa earlier this month.

Tulsa officials are seeking $546,613 for services provided by the city from July through March under the Public Safety Services Agreement, including radio and dispatch service, consolidated warrants and record keeping.

The bill is the difference between what the sheriff's office has paid for the past nine months, $635,400, and what the city determined the services to be worth, or $1.182 million.

Sheriff Stanley Glanz (shown) says he's been operating under an agreement he signed that calls for his office to pay more than $936,000 for the entire fiscal year.

City spokesman John Durkee said the city sent a draft agreement to Glanz's office last year that included the $936,326, but that Glanz didn't sign and return it until months after it was to take effect.

Durkee says since then, the city determined the amount for maintenance of criminal records for the county was grossly understated and increased it to reflect current costs.
