The Tulsa Drillers have been negotiating with the city of Tulsa for several months, trying to find a location for a new stadium. It looks like those talks are paying off with the announcement of a proposed site in the Greenwood district.

The Drillers and the City of Tulsa are nearing the end of an extended agreement to negotiate solely with the city for a site. It was widely thought that the downtown location being discussed was closer to the new BOK center.

Drillers owner Chuck Lamson visited with the KRMG morning news and explained to us why the Greenwood district is the right place for the new digs.

So what do you think? Is this the right place for the stadium? Leave your thoughts below on this site, or any others, including Jenks!

What others are saying

  • Love it
A vibrant downtown is exactly what this city needs and this is just one one way to make that happen. Add this to the new BOK Center and the way the Blue Dome and Greenwood districts have come back and are well on our way. I'll go!
  • Dumb
Not a chance this will work. As far as I'm concerned that is north Tulsa and I won't go, or take my family there. I can't think we're the only ones who feel this way. Too bad too, we always enjoyed a few Drillers games every year and would have continued that if that had stayed where they are or, gone to Jenks.
  • Greenwood District
This would be a huge mistake for the Drillers. They are being sold a bill of goods that will be their demise. I understand why they want a better place to play, but the incentives the city is giving them will not help fill the stands. There will be an initial spike, but most Tulsans including this one will not want to go downtown to watch them play. Right or not, that is just the way it is. I give them 2 years before they fold. Very bad decision. Do not let the pressure from the Tulsa administration or the incentivies they are offering behind the scenes blur the Drillers decision. Take a vote from the players and see what they say. Thats your answer.
  • Drillers Moving
I don't understand the need for a move. We already have a near state of the art facility located in a safe neighborhood that is equally accessible to all parts of town. The whole deal smells. I won't go downtown for business unless I have to much less entertainment. Dumb move. If you think for one minute I will drive to a dangerous neighborhood, pay for parking and walk to the ball park to see a minor league game you're nuts.
  • Dumb
Are you kidding me?? Are you kidding me?? It was bad enough when it was going to be near the new BOK, now they want it so close to north Tulsa? This will be a disaster. They should have gone to Jenks where the money is when they had a chance.
