Thunder take James Harden with 3rd pick.
It was widely thought that the Oklahoma City Thunder would make 18 year old Spanish phenom Ricky Rubio their lottery pick. So much for what anyone thought. Dressed in a three-piece cream suit and a red patterned bowtie, James Harden spoke to ESPN shortly after the Thunder made him the No. 3 pick of the 2009 NBA Draft.
A few quick hits from Harden's interview:
In regards to heading to Oklahoma City: "I just need to go in there and work hard and try my best to earn a spot on their team. They're young and they're great and they have a great chemistry there, so I want to go there and try to help them out."
On being described as an "old-school" player: "I have different paces to my game. I'm not the fastest guy. I'm not the most explosive guy. But I get from Point A to Point B. Just going there and helping those guys out, Kevin Durant and Russell, is going to be a great honor."
On whether he will keep his newly cropped beard: "Maybe for a few weeks but I might want to shave it just to try something different, maybe look younger. But I'll take that into consideration."
Harden finished his two-year career at Arizona State with averages of 19.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 50.6% shooting from the floor.
There you go, folks. Arizona State's James Harden becomes the first draft pick in Thunder history. At long last, we finally know what the Thunder was aiming for with the No. 3 pick. Of course, much of that had to do with what the Grizzlies did with their No. 2 pick.
