This week KRMG's Traffic Chief, John Filbeck, hosted a three-part series addressing concerns that one Latino activist has about how the proposed English-only measure in Oklahoma can make driving more dangers in our state.

You can hear all three segments here.

Feel free to post your comments, thoughts, concerns.

  • Response to Ella
Ella - When I first heard this report last week, I thought KRMG had suddenly become overtaken by liberal idiots who supported this ignorant woman's perspective. She, too barely spoke english!

Anyway, I decided to listen further-and thankfully-heard the other side very well represented and handled.

Way to go John Filbeck for giving us the WHOLE story. While I could give a crud what the liberal perspective is, it sure is nice to hear my perspective in news reporting.
  • Didn't mean to sound rude to KRMG!
I meant the issue was ridiculous and Pat Fennell's argument about licensing illegals so they can be totally safe and get insurance was ridiculous. This was a great, interesting series.
  • This is ridiculous.
First off, how many illegals were insured and properly licensed before HB1804 and this new bill? If they cared that much about obeying the law, they wouldn't be here anyway.

Secondly, giving them a driver's license isn't about safety for the roads - it is purely about legitimizing their presence here and obscuring the fact they don't have proper documentation. Not driving safety. Not insurance. Not respect for the community. It's legalization without the hassles of following the law.

If this were a safety issue, the insurance companies (who want more money from premiums) and the department of transportation would be clamoring for it. But they're not, because it won't affect safety (or insurance policies) a whit.

Cant imagine not knowing how to read or speak the language of the place you live. I did that. It is not easy but my parents in their mid 40's did it and so can everyone else. It will not make it any less dangerous, there are a lot of people out there without licences or insurance. Why is this such a difficult thing for people to get. Learn English it will open up a whole new world for you and your family. You will even get a better job. so you can afford to get insurance and be legal. I am 60 and just got done taking a college Physics class if I can do that surely some of you can learn English, especially if you want to stay here the rest of your life.
    Thats all.
  • English-only
If we allow illegals to obtain drivers license in their own language we are aiding and abetting illegal behavior. Why is this issue repeating itself. The national government will not address this issue full on, so it is left to the individual states to solve. Kudos and respect to Oklahoma elected officials to uphold and move forward on what an overwhelming majority of voters believe is the correct answer. English only, voter I.D's, and uphold our state and national laws.
