KOTV - Home Invasion near Utica Square
There are few things that scare me more than the possibility of a home invasion -
The Tulsa Police Department is searching for four men who forced their way into a home on Sunday morning. Police say the home invasion happened around 5:45 a.m. in the 2200 block of East 23rd Street South.
Police say four men entered the home and held the homeowners hostage while they rummaged through the house. Police say the men stole several items, including wallets and televisions. The four men then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
Police say they believe the suspects were armed with a gun and crowbar. Nobody was injured.
I've always embraced the Boy Scout motto - Be Prepared.
I'd like to think my residence is adequately prepared to repel any such would-be invaders - alarmed and locked windows and doors, strategically placed weapons, mindfulness of strangers/surroundings.
Yet, in spite of one's best preparations, sometimes we can leave a vulnerability that can be penetrated.
I've never been robbed in my home. I can imagine only a couple other things that would leave a person more devastated than the feeling of being vulnerable in your own home while you're sleeping.
In the majority of cases, violent crime victims are familiar with their perpetrators - drug transactions, gang and domestic. That is what makes these kinds of crimes so disturbing - they appear to be totally random.
