More Known on Tulsa Fast-Food Shooting Incident
Did you see this report from the News on 6 -
A fast food customer remains in intensive care after being shot by an employee. It happened Sunday night at a McDonald's drive-thru window. Now another customer is saying the victim was trying to protect her from getting hurt. The News On 6's Jeffrey Smith reports police say Erick Thurman fired nine rounds into Jeff Cox's car during an argument at a McDonald's in Tulsa near 71st and Riverside Drive.
A customer who saw the fight unfold now says if it wasn't for Cox stepping in, Thurman could have opened fire on her instead.
"Just thank you, just thank you for being that prince in the shining armor," said Makayla Hall referring to Cox
Hall says she's been having a hard time. She was there on Sunday night when Erick Thurman, an off-duty McDonald's employee, opened fire on customer Jeff Cox.
"I just feel really disheartened over what happened, because of us," said Hall.
Hall ordered food at the drive-thru at 2 a.m. They waited for more than an hour. She went up to the window and asked for a refund. That's when she says the manager began cursing at her.
"I could have held my tongue a little better probably. But as a person of profession. And as a customer. I really felt that she was out of line," said Hall.
That's when Thurman got involved.
"He then tried to come outside, and charge at us at the window," said Hall.
Hall says Thurman was noticeably drunk and began threatening her.
"He was yelling obscenities at us, and asking us to do sexual things for him, and just calling us names, and things like that. Well we hear from the back, from the car behind us, hey, hey, you know, trying to get his attention," said Hall.
Hall is calling Cox a hero.
"There was no gang banger, no nothing, no drug deal going on that went bad, no nothing of that nature. It was just an unselfish person that saw a situation get out of hand, and wanted to calm it down, and save me," said Hall.
And she says she feels that she's here today, because of him.
"I feel like an angel was over us. And he was our angel. But at the same time, where was his, you know? It's just really emotional, really emotional," said Hall.
The News On 6 went back to that McDonald's on Wednesday and was told that particular manager has since been fired.
Tulsa police arrested Thurman just a few hours after the shooting. They say he admitted doing it.
This an interesting revelation into that early morning incident.
If they story truly did unfold as Hall claims, then Jeff Cox does appear to have outstanding character in rising to the aid of a stranger.
I think most of us have, at one point or another, mentally imagined how we'd handle a situation like that if we were in the same or similar scenario.
Would I have done the same?
I know that in an instant, I'd have to weigh the needs of a stranger versus the needs of my wife to have her husband and of my children to have their daddy. My children always weigh very heavily in all of my significant decisions.
I honestly admit that I haven't any idea how I'd react in a situation like that.
Obviously doing something is better than doing nothing. Nothing is not an option.
I'd imagine that we can only hope we don't find ourselves in situations like that one.
One way I typically seek to avoid dangerous situations is to control my surroundings to the best of my ability. One way to do so is to avoid fast food drive-thrus at 2am.

Jeff Cox - Just WonderingI was just wondering if there was any way that I could thank Jeff Cox personally? I don't think going on TV for KOTV was as personable as being there in person to say Thank you. Not a day goes by that I don't wonder how he is doing and healing. I have tried several attempts to leave my number for Jeff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
- Jeff CoxJeff - We'd love to have you tell your story on KRMG. Email me at joe.kelley@coxradio.com
- Thats The way it happenedMy name is Jeff Cox I am a father of three and know very few things that I wouldnt do to held someone out my children are my life and have always been the one to lend a helping hand I may be looked at like a fool for not being prepaired for the worst. But before a conclusion is drawn I must explain I was in no way expecting a weapon of any sort to be braught out. My life revolves around my children and I have been in dangerous situatios before and am still here(By Gods Good Graces Im Still here) Im not angry at this man im scared for his Children that had to watch there father commit this act of violence appon another Im The regular guy that would help anyone if it is within my power and my greatest reward is knowing that the people whos lifes that I have touched will go on and may have taken a turn for the better that if they see someone in need that instead of turnin away that they would lend a helping hand instead of turn away because not everyone is mean, angry, trying to hurt them or get one over on them but there is always an exception to all of us I hope that tomorow when I get up I will be able to call and talk to you and we can have an educated conversation about this till then

Jeff Cox - shootingI witnessed a dude beating up his woman once and didn't step in to help because I didn't have any idea what the circumstances were and didn't know if she would attack me in his defense if I had jumped in.
Call the cops. That's their job. - concealed carryThis is exactly why I carry a concealed handgun - I'd have shot him back.
You don't get out of your car to confront someone unless you're prepared to deal with the threat...
