Not Garth Brooks, but the Eagles at BOK Center's Opening

One can only imagine the pressure put on country music superstar Garth Brooks in recent months to be the opening act for the BOK Center. With Garth calling Green Country home, it would seem a natural choice to many that Garth would be the guy to open our new arena.

It just wasn't to be.

Yet, does it not speak volumes of the character of Garth Brooks that he would appear at a news conference to announce he's NOT going to do something? He deliberately exposed himself to possible ridicule when he could have just as easily stayed home and avoided eye contact on the issue.

I've worked with Garth (from a distance ... great distance) with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma and, by all accounts, he's an absolute gentleman. A prince amongst thieves.

While the official announcement of the opening act is not expected until later this morning at 10am the rock band The Eagles are announcing on their website that they will be performing at the BOK Center in Tulsa on September 6th, which happens to also be the opening night at the BOK Center.

I am really surprised at the negative comments here. I was in Oklahoma for the Rocklahoma event and got a Tulsa newspaper just to read. When I saw they were playing in September I was really wishing I could be there. Granted I am from the older generation (52) but the Eagles are one of my favorite. My daughter (25) who lives in Claremore really wants to go. Personally I think it will be a major sellout.
  • Eagles
How disappointing! I was hoping for an act that can actually sing. Maybe even some modern songs. This has-been group doesn't show me any class at all. They must be pretty desperate to agree to come to Tulsa. I sure won't be spending my hard-earned money to go see them.

best choice possible since elvis is unavailable
  • bok center
best choice no doubt since Elvis is not available
  • bok
best choice hands down since Elvis is not available
  • Nursing Home Music!
Well there shouldn't be any trouble with parking! We can just pile all of the nursing home patients on busses! This is 2008 right?
  • Eagles
Hmm... I guess Lawrence Welk wasn't available. Could the powers that be have found a non-geriatric group? Oh well I guess they are kind of appropriate for the opening of Tulsa's Duct Tape arena - what a let down.
  • Grand Opening Act
The people of Tulsa would like to thank our mayor for trying to make it happen, but it won't be happening Sept. 6th, The Eagles however will be opening the BOK Center in Tulsa.
  • Grand Opening Act
Hope everyone is happy about the announcement that The Eagles will be the Opening Act. Our Mayor tried everything in her power to get Garth to open the Center, but Garth seems to be certain a concert venue in the future at the Center would benifit children all across the world. Be sure and get your tickets for the Eagles, on sale July 21st!
