Tulsa World - Mayor Taylor Uses Personal Jet to Fetch Councilor
PJ Lassek in Saturday's Tulsa World:
Mayor Kathy Taylor sent her private jet to pick up City Councilor David Patrick from Colorado to allow him to cast a vote on a downtown assessment district that will help fund a ballpark, the councilor confirmed Friday.
"When it was all said and done, I didn't need to vote because it passed 6-3," said Patrick, who supported the measure.
The councilor said he and his extended family were in Seibert, Colo., last week tending to the family farm when he got a call from Taylor asking whether he would be back for the July 10 vote.
"I told her I could try but it would be a 10- to 12-hour drive," Patrick said. "She asked, 'Would it help if I sent a plane?' I told her I didn't have a plane. She said, 'I do.' "
The article points out that Taylor assured Patrick that the state Ethics Commission finds no violations in such action. The city attorney, Deirdre Dexter, gave the thumbs up as well.
David Arnett at Tulsa today sought comment from Tulsa District Attorney Tim Harris -
"I have not done all the research yet, but I am certainly looking into it. At this point in time, the expenditure of private funds [to provide transportation for a public official to vote at a regularly scheduled public meeting] does not appear to be a violation of state law."
Most of us live a life where we can't imagine what it would be like to be able to fetch someone with a private jet.
Yet, I can certainly imagine what it would be like (and have done so) to fetch someone with a car.
Is it the same, but on a different monetary scale?
Does it pass the smell test?
What others are saying
- I see nothing wrong. She wants to make sure the vote goes her way. When we vote on city stuff she can fly me out of Tulsa so I will not vote against it. Some where nice.
- Taylor's jetThis is a non-issue. Objectors regret that they don't have a plane is what gives them angst.
- jetOne question - if she would have done it for a councilor that wished to cast a vote - against her - would she had picked that person up. If yes... not problem. If not, then i do have an issue. I'm ok with her paying and doing city business on her own plane/time and cost. And i'm not a Taylor supporter either.
- Mayor Taylor's Plane"LEAVE KATHY ALONE!!!!"""

- taylor's jetI don't know why everyone wants to hate her so bad or see evil in her actions. YOu may not agree with her politics, but you can't deny her passion and vision for Tulsa
- jetIT JUST PROVES SHE IS NOT AS COMMON AS SHE PORTRAYS HERSELF TO BE WHEN CAMPAIGNING
- taylor's jetIt's here money, her jet. There's nothing wrong. She saved the tax payers from paying for it.
