OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Department of Public Safety officials say an investigation is planned into a scuffle between Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers and a paramedic.

Capt. Chris West said Wednesday the incident will be the focus of an internal administrative review. West did not immediately identify the troopers involved.

Sunday's scuffle occurred on Highway 62 near Paden in Okfuskee County after troopers and first responders in a Creek Nation ambulance argued over a close call on the road.

A woman was being treated in the back of the ambulance for heat exhaustion at the time.

OHP says one of the paramedics assaulted the trooper. Video of the incident shows troopers attempting to subdue the unidentified paramedic.

The Okfuskee County prosecutors are reviewing the footage to see if criminal charges should be filed against the paramedic.

What others are saying

  • OHP EMT
MR. WHITE SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE EMSA VEH: AND KEPT HIS MOUTH CLOSED!!!
  • OHP daniel martin
IF the ambulance driver had not of pulled over, and took the patient to the hospital, OHP would of shot him and the family and the patient. No regard for the family, patient, nor emt employees who strive to save a persons life. Noone deserves the duties of OHP Daniel Martin to serve and protect the people of Oklahoma. He needs to be dismissed and barred from being any law officer of any state. This is conduct of unbecoming of a hi-way patrol officer. NO respect for human life.
  • the trooper put poeple at risk
the trooper went flying down the road and stopped at the call for ten seconds watch the cam time. he didnt even get out on the car at the call.
  • OHP Trooper Showboating for Wife in Car
What an A**Hat! His wife was a passenger in the patrol car. When was he supposedly flipped off?
  • OHP
I think the House & Senate should investigate the OHP's general attitude and citizen relations with most of the OHP officers. The 2 contacts I have had with officers was both involving accidents of my family members and both times the patrolman's judgement was one of disregard to citizen witnesses who tried to give their input. However, the OHP officer's ego and arrogance was the main issue - NOT the citizens who were involved in the accidents. Most people know why OHP won't release the dash cam video - because their officers are many times out of line with the public that pays their salary. OHP needs total departmental re-training for how they serve the public. Also, why is it that the OHP has senority over city & county law officers when they are the least familiar with the neighborhoods, people and citizens of the community?
  • cop
I agree with the other posters, that cop was totally out of line and should be fired immediately for that behavior.
  • trooper?
Capt Chris West stated there would be an Internal Investigation? No way, this should be investigated by another agency and all 3 troopers should be fired. The trooper who put the choke hold on the EMT driver should be charged with felony assault at the very least. Looks like Oklahoma should be considered a Police State. If Captain West does not fire these so called Troopers ; he himself should turn in his resignation.
  • trooper
Shame on the OHP. Rage has no place with public servants who carry guns taking their frustrations out on private citizens let alone EMT's. Even had they been flipped the bird how extreme a reaction was that? Some let that badge and gun go to their heads. Maybe they need a new psych evaluation.
  • bad cops
This cop is a pig and should be fired. This is happening all ocver the USA. They better wake up soon!
  • Ambulance Incident
These cops should be fired! You dont pull over an ambulance period! If these cops had a half a brain cell they should have gone to the hospital and then talked it over with the driver. They should be fired for incompetence no questions asked. The prosecuter's priorities are screwed up and he/she should be investigating the cops first! The citizens of that county should be screaming over this! Just think that could be you riding in the back of an ambulance with a life threatening situation! Would you want to die unecessarily due to some young cop on a power trip? There is no excuse for this!
