Tasha Ball from www.TashaDoesTulsa.com joins us each Friday morning for an update on fun and exciting things to do in Tulsa each weekend.

Picks:

  • Friday: Wood Window Workshop. A chance to put sweat on your brow with Bob Yapp, master carpenter of The House Doctor Fame. Brady Heights, 8am-12pm; 1-5pm
  • Sunday: Kings Champion Medieval Faire. I would say it's a bit early for Talk Like a Pirate Day, but there's no time like the present to go medieval. Chandler Park, 10-8 Saturday, 10-5 Sunday.

Community:

  • Chapters Literacy Fundraiser. One is six adults can't read or understand a newspaper article. Help out while hanging with local authors at the same time. Friday, 6:30pm, Hardesty Regional Library.
  • Rainforest Restoration Dinner. The only consumption that helps the rainforest rather than hinders it. Friday, 6:30, Tulsa Zoo.
  • Swing, Rattle and Roll. Swing music in the Tulsa tradition and cuddly babies - what could go wrong? Saturday, 6:30pm, Cains Ballroom.
  • Urban Indulgence. Only Urban Tulsa Weekly could throw a party this sweet. Saturday, 7-10pm, Hard Rock Casino & Resort in Catoosa.
  • Playdate Reloaded. Home of the No. 1 Hungry Hungry Hippos tourney in town. Saturday, 8pm-2am, FlyTrap Music Hall.
  • Third Annual Restaurant Week. Dine out at a discount while stocking the shelves of the Community Food Bank. Starts Sunday.

Music/Festivals:

  • Free, Live Music at LaFortune Park. Blues music is on tap for a drizzly evening in LaFortune Gardens. Friday, 7-9pm.
  • Bluegrass and Chili Festival. The reason for football season joins forces with the perfect music for chili eating. Now through Saturday, Claremore Expo Center.
  • India Fest. If you love Indian food as much as I do, you won't be able to stay away. Saturday, 11-5, Expo Square.
  • A Taste of Tulsa: Celebrating Family and Culture. Family, music, dance and, oh yes, lots and lots of yummy food. Sunday, 1-5pm, Green Country Event Center.

Home:

  • Tulsa House Beautiful Show. Remodeling? Renovating? Or, if you're like me, accidentally demolishing? Head to Expo Square Friday-Sunday.
  • Green Homes Tour. Who said green was cheap? Not the folks who built the first LEED Gold Certified single family home in the Tulsa area. Tour it Saturday-Sunday, 1-6pm, 1536 E. 35th Place.
  • Tulsa Preservation Commission Open House. Applaud the winners of the 2009 TPC Preservation Award winners. Saturday, 2-4pm, The Parish Church of St. Jerome

Other Stuff:

  • Gallery Showing: Jason Yang. Pop art and Stars Go Dim: What a wonderful combination. Friday, 8-11pm, Ida Red Boutique.
  • Art Blast at Gilcrease Museum. No explosives necessary. Saturday, 10-3, Gilcrease Museum.
  • Fall Hot Loops. The ultimate girls' party. Saturday, 7pm, Loops in Utica Square.

Sports:

  • Oklahoma and Oklahoma State Football. It's almost game day, so hang up your collegiate wind sock and plant yourself at a local pub for a good view of the game.
  • TashaDoesTulsa|Run Training: Take Two. We're running a little more than we're walking at this point, and we're still prepared to run in the rain. Saturday, 10am, Pedestrian Bridge at RiverParks.
  • Turkey & TATURS Trail Race. Run alongside the Arkansas River in the urban wilderness that is Turkey Mountain. Then, there's the funny name.
  • R.K. Gun & Knife Show. If you love guns and knives, you'll love this - all 500 tables of it. Saturday-Sunday, SpiritBank Event Center.
  • American Miniature National Show. Love miniature stuff (and, no, I don't mean midgets)? Try these horses on for size. Now-Sept. 19, Expo Square.

Movies:

  • 9. A cuddly flick about the end of the world as we know it.
  • Sorority Row. Another film about sorority sisters with homicidal tendencies.
  • Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Delinquents are delivered into the hands of their family. Ahh.
  • Whiteout. Kate Beckinsale hangs up her fangs and picks up a gun as she investigates Antarctica's first homicide case.
  • Soul Power. The most famous R&B acts in the world put on a 12-hour concert to promote the "Rumble in the Jumble," the epic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
