This isn't necessarily meant to be a fight song. They aren't going to play it when the team runs out. It's just like some of the other songs they play and have played in the past at the games that aren't necessarily fight songs but still are "Cowboy" songs. So don't get too bent out of shape about it. It's a nice little song, not real manly or anything but it captures the Old West type spirit which is what it seems that the author meant to do.
