First off, I want to preface this by saying - the 1st Amendment gives everyone, including those writing their thoughts here, the right to say whatever they want without penality or persecution. That said -
WHAT IS FREAKIN' WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!?
You are the first one's to defend your right to say what you want, and damn the person who questions that right. But you feel you have the right to condemn someone for speaking their mind? Do you understand logic? Do you understand reason? I don't agree with Rev. Wright's comments, but it was his church, his congregation - let him say what he wants. Did anyone die from what he said? Were their hate crimes associated with his comments? And so what if Michelle Obama called someone "Whitey?" Is she her husband? Will she be running for the Presidency? Will she be the one affecting policy?
It is comments like the ones posted here that make normal (and I realize that's a term open to subjectivity), every-day American's question the democratic process. We have created a world where, yes, you can say anything you want, but then you will be criticized for it indefinitely.
What would be the best, is if we all went mute. No talking, no "blogging," no conversation. Just head-nods representing "Yes" or "No." Try it. Maybe you'll actually be able to go a day without 1)Offending someone, or 2) Being so easily offended.
