(Broken Arrow, OK)-- Pay now for a permit or pay later for a fine.  Broken Arrow measures the success of its fireworks permit program with $36,000.  "We sold 1,800 permits last year," says Keith Sterling with the city of Broken Arrow.  He says you can buy a $20 permit that allows you to shoot off fireworks on July 3rd and July 4th with some time and location restrictions.  Sterling says, "It has confined the discharge of fireworks to those two days and eliminated the fireworks that we saw in years past leading up to the holiday.  Now folks know they can legally set off fireworks on July 3rd and July 4th and for the most part they wait to do it on those two days."  He adds the fine if caught without a permit begins at $225 and increases if you are caught shooting off fireworks after 11pm.  This is the third year for Broken Arrow- but a number of other communities have a similar permit this year.
