Board denies clemency to convicted killer
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A state board denies clemency for a man scheduled to be executed next month for the death of his 11-year-old niece more than 16 years ago.
The state Pardon and Parole board voted unanimously yesterday to reject clemency for 52-year-old Jesse James Cummings Junior.
Cummings is scheduled to be executed September 25th for the 1991 killing of Melissa Moody, whose body was found in rural southeastern Oklahoma.
Cummings has maintained his innocence, and told the parole board that he was in Oklahoma City at the time of the murders, taking his father to the hospital.
The board had recommended clemency in its previous case, and the governor commuted Kevin Young's sentence to life without parole.
