Changes coming to BA Schools for Start of Year
You will see fewer teachers at the head of the class this year. Many districts trimmed positions because of rising fuel, energy and food costs. In Broken Arrow, the district cut positions to trim about one million dollars from the budget. Keith Isbell with Broken Arrow schools says the district eliminated 16 teaching and 4 administrative positions by retirement and attrition for the school year. He does not believe the cuts will impact class size this year or be noticed by parents and students. Isbell does admit if costs continue to rise and funding levels do not then cuts will go deeper next school year.
A few minor changes to the bus routes for Broken Arrow students. We're told it will affect about 500 students. The district altered 28 bus routes by shortening the route or by eliminating some of the stops in a neighborhood. For example, Broken Arrow spokesperson Keith Isbell says i
n the past if a street had 6 stops, it might have 2 stops now. Isbell says the changes should affect about 500 students of more than 8,000 students that ride the bus.Marketplace
