Expanding B.A. wants new exits off the Turnpike
Development is apparently driving the need for a new entrance and exit ramp on the Creek Turnpike in Broken Arrow. New neighborhoods are popping up along Aspen near the turnpike and there is not exit but there is talk about building an access ramp. The city of Broken Arrow and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority or OTA are discussing the project. Keith Sterling with Broken Arrow says the city wants to see the project completed because of expected growth in that area of the city.
"The OTA has studied this. They obviously believe there is a need there as well that is why they are talking about possibly funding half of the project," says Sterling. He adds the initial estimate is about $4 million so the city would need to come up with about $2 million. He uses the Elm exit off the Creek Turnpike as an example of what could happen. "You have a whole lot of development that has occured right at that Creek Turnpike exit," says Sterling. Tonight the Broken Arrow City Council is expected to green light further negotiations with OTA and study how to pay for the Aspen entrance/exit ramps.
