Minority population grows across Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Census Bureau figures indicate that Oklahoma's minority population continues to grow in most of the state's counties.
Census figures released today show significant gains in the percentage of Asian-Americans who call the Sooner State home.
Twelve Oklahoma counties saw double-digit percentage increases of Asian-Americans from 2006 to 2007.
Four counties - Craig, Nowata, Rogers and Wagoner - were among the top 30 in the nation for percentage increase in the number of residents of Asian descent.
In Rogers County, which ranked 13th nationally with a 30 percent increase in the number of Asian-Americans, the population increased from 661 to 881.
Oklahoma County's Asian population, the largest in the state at 28,596, grew by 2.6 percent from 2006 to 2007.
