Reports of arrest of fugitive teacher premature
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa authorities say reports of the arrest of a former Broken Arrow teacher who has been a fugitive for more than 18 years are apparently premature.
Tulsa County Chief Sheriff's Deputy George Haralson says that Interpol, an international police agency, had contacted the Oklahoma authorities seeking information on 59-year-old Ronald G. Lyons.
Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham says that led Oklahoma authorities to believe Lyons had been captured in Paris, but that apparently has not happened.
Haralson says Interpol officials wanted photographs, fingerprints and a letter of intent to extradite, which he says Tulsa authorities have provided.
Lyons failed to show up for a prison term more than 18 years ago.
At a 1987 non-jury trial, he was convicted of three counts of soliciting teen girls to pose in lewd photos, two counts of possessing obscene photos of a minor and a count each of cultivating marijuana, possessing cocaine and possessing marijuana.
