Professional bicyclists with diabetes in Oklahoma for fund raising
OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok. - A few dozen professional bicyclists who suffer diabetes plan to be in Oklahoma later this month on what's called a Tour de Cure. One of them is 27 year old Phil Southerland, a type one diabetic from Florida. He says, "We have riders from Team Tech One and Team Tech Two with type one and type two diabetes who are on Tour de Cures all over the country. I think we'll probably have some riders arriving May 15th for the 16th Tour de Cure in Tulsa and then we've also got a Tour de Cure on June 27th in Mustang right outside of Oklahoma City that we're looking forward to being a part of. Unfortunately, we're got to the point where just about everyone knows someone or either is or knows someone affected with diabetes. And I believe in the state of Oklahoma it's nine percent of people have diabetes." It's a fund raising event and the cyclists will arrive in Tulsa this weekend.
