TULSA, Ok. - AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Steve Berg reports that it's been a long wait for the friends and family of 19-year-old Sara Smart, but now her accused killer, her stepfather, will stand trial for the crime. Jerry Raney of Muskogee was bound over yesterday. Prosecutors say he strangled Sara and stuffed her body in a barrel. Her stepmother, Christine Smart-Leader reacted after that lengthy preliminary hearing was over. She says, "Elated, relieved, kind of in shock. But, I've maintained faith that this would go to trial, and now it is." Witnesses testified during the hearing that before Sara disappeared, she told people that Raney tried to rape her and threatened to kill her if she went to police.
