Tulsa man investigates cry for help, gets hatchet to the head for his trouble
TULSA, Ok. - AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Steve Berg reports Tulsa Police say the District Attorney's Office will make the official call, but right now, they say it sure looks like a shooting on the west side yesterday morning was self-defense. It began with an argument between a man and a woman, and then another man started chasing him with a hatchet. A neighbor saw what was going on, grabbed his handgun and ordered the hatchet-man to stop. But police say he kept coming and actually hit the neighbor in the head with the hatchet. Somehow, Tulsa Police Officer Jason Willingham says the neighbor then shot the hatchet-man. He says, "Number one, there is a law on the books in the state of Oklahoma that protects yourself. If you feel like your life's in danger and obviously he had been hit on the head with a hatchet so he was protected from that angle." Amazingly, both the gun-toting neighbor and the hatchet man survived. The man from the argument that started it all got off without a scratch.
