OU Cancer Institute study shows for many women with uterine cancer it might be best NOT to go under the knife to get to the cancer
OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok. - An OU Cancer Center study of 2,600 women nationwide shows many women with uterine cancer now have an option to open surgery. Dr. Joan Walker says laparoscopic surgery causes fewer complications than traditional surgery surgery. She says, "Patients tended to go home in one to two days, rather than four days, if you make an incision to do the same operation." Walker says the average age of women eligible for laproscopic uterine cancer surgery is 65. 446 of the women in the study were treated at the OU Medical Center.
