Tiny Fire Department Raises Big Bucks

(Shidler, OK) - Members of the Shidler Fire Department are nothing if not tenacious. It took them four years of selling hamburgers at local events, holding raffles and other ways but they finally raised $100,000 for a new ambulance. Keep in mind, the nearest hospital to the tiny Osage County town is 20 miles away. The nearest town of any size is Ponca City which is 30 miles away. Fire Chief Todd Roe says they money came in both small and large amounts ranging from $15 to six or seven thousand dollars. The actual price tag for the ambulance was $105,000 with the City of Shidler picking up the final $5,000. If you think the department's members have put their spatulas away, you would be wrong. They're now flipping burgers again to get a new rescue truck. They just need $80,000 to do it.
