Dying Town Receives Stimulus Money

(Picher, OK) -- The town of Picher is dying but its housing authority is sitting on $135,000 in federal stimulus money. Authority director John Sparkman says there are no plans to spend any of it on their units in Picher. He explains it was awarded automatically to them because of federal regulations. Sparkman says if they do spend it, it would be in Fairland where many of the residents are being relocated. He expects all the units in the Tar Creek town to be vacated by the end of the month.
