No football playoffs for Booker T. Washington
TULSA, Ok. - AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Nicole Burgin reports yesterday was the day Tulsa Booker T.Washington High School found out whether the school would see further penalties since the discovery of residency violations and academic violations for more than 40 athletes at the school. The Oklahoma Secondary School Athletic Association met during executive session and ultimately voted to accept all the penalties that Tulsa Public Schools imposed on the high school. Dr. Stephanie Spring is Athletic Director for T-P-S. She says, "For me to stand here and say that I wasn't a little bit nervous sitting back in that chair, standing up at that podium answering questions, I wouldn't be honest because I was. My stomach was knotted up pretty good, too. It wasn't a fun situation." The problems impacted four sports and the self-imposed penalties included reassigning Booker T.'s principal and suspending the football coach and the athletic director, plus forfeiting a number of games in several sports.
