Police officers laid off last week volunteer now
TULSA, Ok. - Not all of the 144 laid off Tulsa police officers are out of work. 79 of them are now reserve TPD, but they're not getting paid. Micheal Burgess and Jennifer Tate are now reserve officers wearing silver badges instead of the gold badge they wore last week. Burgess says, "It doesn't matter whether I have a gold badge or a silver badge, my professionalism cannot be bought. There is no paycheck behind it. I am the same officer that I was before." Burgess hopes something can be done to get the laid off officers re-hired. The Tulsa City Council voted Thursday night to find ways that citizens can donate funds to help pay some police salaries.
What others are saying
- DedicationTo those officers who are continuing to serve even without a paycheck I say that's what the job of PUBLIC SERVICE is all about. They believe that their services are required no matter the economy, their duty is foremost. This is a career for them not just a job.
