Jenks, Bixby, Glenpool consider asking Tulsa County Sheriff's Office to take over their police departments
TULSA, Ok. - Officials in Jenks, Bixby and Glenpool are tossing around the idea of having the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office operate their police departments. Officials say the cities would pay the sheriff's office for their service on a contract basis, the same as they pay an outside company to manage their wastewater treatment plant. The city leaders say the plan would be for all of their police officers to work for the sheriff, which would be a cost-saving measure for each city.
What others are saying
- This is the beginning of the end. If these departments go 'Metro' then Dewey will try to take TPD in that direction. Privatizing or paying others to do your policing doesn't work, especially since Tulsa County doesn't have anywhere near the manpower levels to take over policing in these areas. There will be a dramatic decrease in call response and a lower caliber of officer or deputy responding to calls.
- This is a bad idea! The citizens will suffer.
