Strange Death Investigated
(Tulsa, OK) -- Officials in Tulsa are investigating a strange accident which killed a woman and has a man facing possible criminal charges. It started Saturday night when 45-year-old Gary McKenzie brought in 32-year-old Tammy Renee Meyers to a hospital emergency room. He told the medical staff he ran over Meyers after she jumped from his vehicle. Meyers died from her injuries later Saturday night. McKenzie was arrested at the hospital for driving without a license and a pair of drug-related charges. The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the events which led to the death of Meyers.

Tulsa Park Shooting
(Tulsa, OK) -- A popular public park in Tulsa was turned into a shooting range Sunday afternoon. Police report a man was shot at late in the day while in McClure Park. The wounded man walked into Hilcrest Medical Center around 7 p.m. suffering from a single gunshot wound to his right arm. The wound was not too serious and he was released after getting a few stitches. Investigators report the man says he was approached by a group of people at the park who fired at his vehicle while he was driving away.

Police Car Used In Escape Attempt
(Collinsville, OK) -- A man is back behind bars after stealing a police cruiser while making an escape attempt. Police in Collinsville say Franklin Klutts was arrested after a traffic stop Saturday night. Klutts slipped his handcuffed hands from behind his back while sitting strapped in by a seat belt in the back of the police car. The 37-year-old jumped behind the wheel and took off. He was captured after crashing the cruiser in a wooded area near Vera. A number of charges are expected to be filed against Klutts as a result of his escape attempt.

Smoke Smell Delays Flight
(Tulsa, OK) -- It was a longer than expected trip for passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight yesterday. A Southwest Airlines plane was flying from Oklahoma City to Kansas CIty when the pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit just after takeoff. The pilot quickly turned the Boeing 737 around and went back to Will Rogers World Airport. After a safe and uneventful landing, all 83 passengers exited the plane. Mechanics with the airline began searching for signs of a possible fire or burned-out equipment in the cockpit. The airline has not said what could have caused the smoke smell. Passengers were delayed for and hour-and-a-half before another plane took them to Kansas City.

Tulsa Spring Football Practice
(Tulsa, OK) -- The Tulsa football team starts spring drills today in preparations for its first season in Conference USA. The team finished the 2004 season with a 4-8 overall record. Tulsa will have a total of 15 practices this spring, ending with the annual spring game April 15th. Head coach Steve Kragthorpe is returning six starters on both offense and defense. He says even with some holes to fill, he is confident that he have a great group of guys coming back that can quickly fill those roles. The biggest battle is expected to be at quarterback where sophomore Paul Smith and red-shirt freshman David Johnson will compete for the starting job.
