LENAPAH, Ok — Wade Reeves and Justin Stoneburner were searching new dive sites and working on their skills when they found the vehicles.
“We came here and were diving yesterday when we ran across one car,” Stoneburner explained. “Then we found two, and three, and four, and half of another,” he continued.
Reeves said the two took the license plates to Nowata County detectives who initially didn’t seem interested. But when further investigation found criminal activity involved with at least one of the plates, “they called us back and said ‘hey if you could, could you come and help is pull those cars out.’”
Investigators confirm none of the vehicles are from the area with one traced back to Texas.
Only one of the cars was recovered Monday but deputies plan to pull the other four out as soon as they have more equipment.
