Tue, Aug 22, 2017 — We told you back in February about a couple wanted for child abuse, fleeing with their children, ages 5 and 8.

Tulsa police report those children were recently found in Florida and their parents, Christopher Smith and Shaquelle Cantrelle, have been taken into custody.

Police say they’re happy the nightmare is finally over for the children.

“I mean they were taken out of their home city, state, to somewhere they’ve never been before,” police said.  “It was very exciting to get the call that they have been found.”

It turns out, Cantrelle had been pregnant the whole time.  Someone recognized the couple in a Florida hospital when she went in to give birth.

Investigators believe the aunt, Shanequa Ragsdale, allowed Smith and Cantrell to leave with the kids during a supervised visit.  Court records show Ragsdale is currently undergoing proceedings for child neglect.

The kids are now with other family members.  Police say the newborn is in protective custody in Florida.
