Former Broken Arrow kicker Peter Jessee is working hard in rehab after an injury from a surfing lesson left him paralyzed from the waist down. Peter's father, Bud Jessee has been sending updates and we will post them here as soon as we get them.
Tuesday, June 2nd 18thI had an email all ready to go Sunday morning and when I tried to send it out on a laptop I somehow erased it. I am trying to recreate it from here in rainy Miami, FL. Peter and I are here at the Brucker Biofeedback Center, the worlds best biofeedback center. More on that later.
Memorial Day weekend was really tough on Peter. It was one year ago on May 23rd that this ordeal started. If it had not been for Mark Jackson and Cooper Frederick, two of Peter's old hockey teammates, I do not know what we would have done. They spent most of the week with Peter, taking him to therapy, the movies and Cooper end Peter even went to the rodeo on Sat. with Coop. They were a God send. Thanks to Coop and Mark, true friends, there for a friend in need.
Memorial Day was tough on all of us. Memorial Day night I prayed to God to speak to me, to give me some direction and to help and heal Peter. Tuesday morning I asked God for the same things but to speak to me for I have had people tell me that God has spoken to them. Why not me? On Tuesday morning I received the daily devotional from our minister Doc Blevins. He gave us a verse from Psalm 37 and said we should all take the time to read the complete chapter of Psalm 37. So I go get my Bible and read Psalm 31. Yes Psalm 31. For some reason I read 31 instead of 37. Here are some verses from Psalm 31.
1-2 I run to you, God; I run for dear life. Don't let me down! Take me seriously this time! Get down on my level and listen, and please-no procrastination! Your granite cave a hiding place, your high cliff aerie a place of safety.
6-13 I hate all this silly religion, but you, God, I trust. I'm leaping and singing in the circle of your love; you saw my pain, you disarmed my tormentors, You didn't leave me in their clutches but gave me room to breathe. Be kind to me God- I'm in deep, deep trouble again. I've cried my eyes out; I feel hollow inside. My life leaks away, groan by groan; my years fade out in sighs. My troubles have worn me out, turned my bones to powder. To my enemies I'm a monster; I'm ridiculed by the neighbors, my friends are horrified, they cross the street to avoid me. They blot me from memory, forget me like a corpse in a grave, discard me like a broken dish in the trash. The street talk gossip has me "criminally insane"! Behind locked doors they plot how to ruin me for good.
23-24 Love God, all you saints; God takes care of all who stay close to him, But He pays back in full those arrogant enough to go it alone. Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up, Expect God to get here soon.
God lead me to Chapter 31. Chapter 37 had nothing to do with our situation. I know God is here and he has lead us to this place in FL. We have been telling Peter that he is getting better and that his lower back muscles are getting stronger and his walking is getting better. He does not see it and thinks we might be trying to be nice. Well today the biofeedback center hooked him up and detected signal at the L4 level. Peters injury is at the T9 level so down to L4 is 7 levels lower. Needless to say, Peter's spirits have been lifted and with medical science, his friends back home, your prayers and God's continued helping hand in all of this...............................
He will walk again
