CLARK HOWARD: Which meal kit is right for you?

Comparing cost with quality and nutritional value

Meal kits became popular in recent years, making a home-cooked meal as easy as following instructions.

The kits show up at your door with all the ingredients you need included in the box, plus the cooking instructions.

The popularity of these meal kits had begun to slip until the COVID-19 pandemic forced restaurants to limit capacity or completely close.

According to KRMG’s Consumer Warrior Clark Howard, meal kits do more than just keep you away from crowds. They also help you sharpen your cooking skills, meal plan and eat healthier.

Consumer Reports recently reviewed the top meal delivery kits.

The review showed consumers care about price, variety and quality when choosing a meal kit. They also want easy-to-follow instructions and a good-tasting food.

Consumer Reports also looked at the nutritional value of each kit.

The review found high levels of sodium in many kits.

Clark Howard breaks down the report in his podcast here

Clark said Home Chef was rated the best in terms of price, quality and ease of use.

Even with its lower cost, the worst on the list was Dinnerly. Clark said this is due to the fact that customers said the recipes were not easy to follow.
