BIXBY, Okla. — Investigators with the Bixby Police Department (BPD) have issued an update on the death of prominent Tulsa figure Sherry Gamble Smith.

BPD says Gamble Smith was shot and killed by her husband last month. The incident has been classified officially as a murder-suicide.

Officer Seth Adcock says evidence at the scene, digital evidence and home security video led to this classification.

Investigators say home security footage shows Martin Everett Smith spending most of the night before the murder sitting alone in his garage at the couples home near near East 111th Street South and South Mingo Road. They say shortly before the murder July 6 the video shows Smith removing a pistol from the garage, placing it in his waistband and entering the home.

Interviews led investigators to believe that the couple had been fighting for several days before the shooting.

Smith turned the gun on himself after shooting and killing his wife. He later died at a hospital.
