Barry Manilow announced he has been diagnosed with lung cancer Monday morning.
The 82-year-old singer had just finished touring in the seventh year of his “A Gift of Love” Christmas charity tour when he received the diagnosis.
In a social media post, Manilow said he recently went though six weeks of bronchitis, followed by a relapse of another five weeks. After overcoming the bronchitis and performing again, his doctor ordered a check-up MRI.
The MRI found a cancerous spot in Manilow’s left lung that needs to be removed.
Manilow said he will have surgery to remove the spot, but doctors do not believe it has spread. No chemotherapy or radiation will be needed as part of his treatment.
“Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns,” said Manilow in his social media post.
Manilow’s January area concerts have been rescheduled as he recovers.
Manilow said he will first return to the Westgate Las Vegas for his Valentine’s weekend concerts on Feb. 12 – 14.
The new arena schedule is as follows:
- Tampa: February 27 – Benchmark International Area
- Columbus: March 6 – Nationwide Area
- Charleston: March 11 – North Charleston Coliseum
- Orlando: March 13 – Kia Center
- Sunrise: March 14 – Amerant Bank Arena
- Estero: March 16 & 17 – Hertz Arena
- Greensboro: April 24 – First Horizon Coliseum
- Jacksonville: April 27 – VyStar Veterans Memorial
- Duluth (GA): April 29 – Gas South Arena
“I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. And remember, if you have even the slightest symptom… get tested! I’ll see you at the Westgate Las Vegas for Valentine’s,” said Manilow.
