TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Northeastern State University Foundation set new records in 2025 for its privately funded scholarships awarded to students.
The foundation set records for the number, total value and average amount of privately funded scholarships awarded to RiverHawks.
NSU said as of Dec. 8, the foundation awarded $1,525,608 through 1,291 privately funded scholarships, representing a 74.34 percent increase since 2019.
The average scholarship award also reached a historic high of $1,182, reflecting a 10.15 percent increase from the previous year.
NSU said privately funded scholarships serve as a critical resource for students facing rising educational costs and financial need remains a significant factor influencing student retention and degree completion.
“Our donors should feel incredibly proud of the positive impact they are making on each scholarship recipient’s journey at NSU,” said Peggy Glenn, executive director of the NSU Foundation. “Every year, I read hundreds of thank-you letters from students, and there is one constant theme — a scholarship is about more than financial support. It represents someone they may not even know believing in them, investing in their future and cheering them on toward earning a degree.”
NSU President Rodney Hanley said the record-setting scholarship support reflects the strength of the university’s partnership with donors and the community.
“These scholarships are opening doors for our students and helping ensure financial barriers do not stand in the way of their academic goals. The continued generosity of our donors is transforming lives, strengthening our university and reinforcing NSU’s commitment to student success,” said Hanley.
The foundation said it remains committed to increasing scholarship support in the years ahead and encourages continued donor engagement to sustain the momentum.
