Firefighters battle blaze across from Woodland Hills Mall

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa firefighters battled a massive fire this morning that broke out in the On the Border restaurant near 71st and Memorial.

The restaurant, across from Woodland Hills Mall, is permanently closed, and the building has been empty.

Andrew Little with TFD says the 9-1-1 calls started pouring in around 8:30 am.

Little said, “Because of the location of the busy street and the quick response, they were able to get the main fire knocked down within about 4 minutes. The entire scene was under control in 16 minutes.”

TFD says firefighters arrived to find the front entrance of the building fully involved, but the fire did not spread to the rest of the building.

Little says that although the flames didn’t fully extend into the building, there is still quite a bit of damage.

“We had crews on the roof, we had crews pulling ceilings, really just to make sure there wasn’t an extension, making sure there weren’t hidden embers that would reignite the structure later.”

Fire investigators and arson dogs are looking into the cause of the blaze.
