OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board has voted to accept the findings of an audit of Epic Charter Schools’ finances.
The audit showed no “willful wrongdoing” or any misappropriation of money, however, it did find several things the district needs to improve on.
The audit, which took several months to conduct, resulted in 15 recommendations being made for Epic. Most of them have been or are being implemented.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to address the issues outlined in this audit,” said Epic spokesperson Erin Hatfield. “While there is still more to do, we have come a long way in addressing issues that led to last year’s difficult situation. This report provides a clear roadmap as we continue to secure the long-term success and stability of our school for the 31,000 students and families we serve.”
The audit covered more than a year’s worth of Epic’s financial records as well as its accounting and governance practices.
The audit was conducted by accounting and advisory firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram.
