Woman uses purse as tourniquet following north Tulsa shooting

By Fox23.com News Staff

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department said a woman used a purse strap as a tourniquet to help a man who was shot in north Tulsa Thursday night.

Police said officers saw a driver speeding out of the East Central Village Apartments near East Admiral Place and North 129th East Avenue around 9 p.m.

The driver did not make a proper stop at a red light near North Garnett Road and officers conducted a traffic stop.

A woman driving the vehicle told officers she came home from work and saw her friend wounded outside her apartment. She took the strap off her purse and used it as a makeshift tourniquet around the victim’s leg.

Police said the woman helped the victim into her backseat and was driving to the hospital when officers pulled them over.

Paramedics arrived and took the victim to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
