OILTON, Okla. — The City of Oilton downsized its police department following an administrative change.
Interim Oilton Mayor Julia Bagwell said the City reevaluated the operational needs of the department and adjusted staffing levels accordingly.
Bagwell said the decision was made due to previously excessive staffing levels and was part of a broader effort to align the department with its current needs and available resources.
Bagwell said the police department is fully staffed and fully operational at this time, with two full-time officers and five reserve officers. The interim mayor also said that public safety services have not been disrupted.
The City of Oilton has undergone several other recent changes, including in October 2025, when the City voted to terminate John Hefley as its police chief and hire Chris Kirkpatrick as the new police chief.
Kirkpatrick later resigned from his position as police chief at the end of January. Cameron Williams has served as the City’s interim police chief since Kirkpatrick’s resignation.
Kirkpatrick’s resignation came only a little over two weeks after former Oilton Mayor Patrick Kennedy resigned from his role as mayor.
Kennedy chose to resign after the board voted to remove him as Oilton Public Works Authority Chairman.
Following Kennedy’s resignation, Julia Bagwell was appointed as the City’s interim mayor.
On Tuesday, the City made the decision to downsize its police department during a City Council meeting.
