Rogers County officials warn of scam targeting local vendors

ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Rogers County officials are warning of a scam where individuals are posing as county employees and falsely requesting payments.

Rogers County said the scammer uses publicly available county information, such as meeting agendas and vendor lists.

Several vendors who do business with the county have reported receiving emails with attachments that appear legitimate at first glance.

In many cases, scammers reference real county documents or agenda items to appear authenticate, often demanding immediate payment or requesting sensitive financial information.

Rogers County said these communications are fraudulent and the county is not contacting vendors or residents with unsolicited payment demands.

The public and vendors are urged to not send money or share information in response to unexpected requests. Anyone who receives suspicious communication should verify its legitimacy by contacting the appropriate county office.

“Protecting our residents and those we conduct county business with is a top priority,” said Commissioner Chairman Ron Burrows of District 3. “We want to ensure the public knows these messages are not coming from our offices. When in doubt, always verify.”

Rogers County said it is recommended that citizens block the sender’s email address, not open attachments or click on links.

All legitimate billing or vendor communication is conducted through established, secure channels.

Scam attempts should be reported to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office or local law enforcement. Individuals who believe they have already provided information to a scammer are encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately.
