Ribbon-cutting marks opening of new elder nutrition site in Dewey

By Fox23.com News Staff

DEWEY, Okla. — On Tuesday, Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr and Deputy Principal Chief Bryan Warner of the Cherokee Nation alongside other Cherokee Nation leaders and elders celebrated the grand opening of the newest elder nutrition location.

The Dewey Elder Nutrition Site is part of the Cherokee Nation Elder Nutrition Program, which gives healthy and balanced meals to seniors in the Cherokee Nation community. The new location’s opening was honored by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Last October, both Chief Hoskin and Deputy Warner announced the expansion of the Elder Nutrition Program. This expansion included its renaming and a commitment of $2 million from the Cherokee Nation’s Public Health and Wellness Fund Act.

The money dedicated to this expansion helped to cover costs of construction of the Dewey Elder Nutrition Site and two other sites along the reservation.
