Possible tornado tears roof off Tulsa Tech

TULSA, Okla. – A possible tornado passed through north Tulsa Friday evening, leaving a trail of debris and a lot of damage.

Tulsa Tech’s north Peoria campus lost half of its roof during the storm.

Strips of the metal roof were thrown into the air and wrapped around trees.

Many crews were walking around the building assessing the damage, while electric crews made sure there were no live wires on the ground.

According to police on the scene, there were no injuries on the campus.

Just before 10 pm, the City of Tulsa sent out a press release saying, “The City of Tulsa is currently assessing conditions following severe weather and a potential tornado that moved through North Tulsa earlier this evening. City emergency response teams are working to assess conditions and respond to any immediate needs. Crews are also monitoring roadways and infrastructure in coordination with local emergency management partners, particularly in the areas of 36th and 46th St. N. and N. Lewis Ave. and N. Peoria Ave.”

The city is asking residents to use caution and stay away from any potential hazards such as downed power lines, blocked roadways, or storm damage.

According to the City of Tulsa, 36th St. N. between N. Peoria Ave. and N. Lansing Ave. is currently closed due to downed power lines and a gas leak.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) will be out in the morning to remove the lines. The road will remain closed until that time. Please follow the posted barricades and detours.

North Tulsa residents are reporting roof and tree damage, as well as several downed power lines.
