The Tulsa Police Department recently announced they have closed a 32-year old homicide cold case, but no one will be charged due to the death of the suspect in 2019.

On September 10th, 1993, 21-year-old Leonard Hancock Jr. was found dead in a car near North Zion St. and Frankfort Ave. Hancock was sitting in the driver’s seat with three gunshot wounds.

Homicide Detectives interviewed several people at the time, but were unable to find enough evidence to make an arrest. In January 2026, Homicide Detectives had the Tulsa Police Forensic Lab review evidence from the case, and further testing and follow-up interviews identified Bayode Bailey as the suspect in Hancock’s murder.

The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office determined there would be enough evidence to charge Bailey, but he died in 2019.
