City of Tulsa responds after severe storm damages buildings in north Tulsa

By FOX23 News

The City of Tulsa is continuing to assess conditions after a potential tornado moved through north Tulsa Friday night.

On Saturday, Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols held a press conference on the city’s emergency response.

“I will just say I am incredibly thankful that many of the structures that were impacted were empty,” said Nichols. “If you’ve been near Tulsa Tech, you would have seen the damage. Had this happened earlier in the day, it would have been very different.”

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced a State of Emergency for several areas affected by severe weather, including Tulsa County.

Mayor Nichols said the City of Tulsa is working closely with the state and regional partners on the emergency response.

City emergency response teams have been working throughout the night and are continuing to assess damage.

State Senator Regina Goodwin (D-Tulsa) released the following statement:

“While I am very grateful we’ve had no reports of fatalities in my own district, we know there were deaths in other areas of the state, and our prayers are with those communities and families.

“I was saddened by the extensive damage I’ve seen in some parts of north Tulsa, and I know those impacted are going to be dealing with this for a while. I’ve seen damage at multiple buildings, including Jack’s Memorial Chapel, the 36th Street North Event Center, the Tulsa Tech Peoria Campus, and I understand the Greenwood Leadership Academy has damage, with houses impacted on Lansing in particular.

“I appreciate Governor Stitt for declaring a State of Emergency, and want to urge anyone who had damage to their home or business to report it at damage.ok.gov. I’ll continue to be here in the district, offering any assistance I can. I especially want to thank Pastor Tim Newton and his wife with the Tulsa Dream Center – they’ve been rounding up volunteers to help with the clean-up.

“If you weren’t affected by the storm and would like to help, or if you need help, you can call the Red Cross at 918-831-1100 or contact my office at 405-521-5598.”

If you have any damage from the storms to report, you can do so here.
