OKLAHOMA — Epic Charter Schools, Oklahoma’s largest virtual charter school, has paid off its $30 million line of credit months ahead of schedule.
The school said the move will save taxpayers almost $200,000.
Due to past financial errors, a line of credit was necessary to continue operations, the school said. The loan was secured on June 20, 2025, with a maturity date of June 20, 2026.
As of Thursday, the remaining balance stood at $14.5 million. By retiring the balance early, Epic avoided paying around $197,000 in additional interest.
“The discipline shown across so many departments, from budgeting and finance to enrollment, instruction and support services, allowed us to resolve the remaining balance sooner than planned,” said Dr. Shaun Ross, Epic superintendent.
Trevor Hammons, chairman of Epic’s governing board, said the move not only closes the final chapter of the school’s financially tumultuous past, but also emphasizes the organization’s focus on responsible financial management and long-term security.
“Today is a crucial step forward for Epic Charter Schools. Through the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff, we confidently look forward to a secure future,” said Hammons. “Our focus on student outcomes has never wavered, and we are proud of the work we have done, even in the most challenging times, to educate and empower students.”
