OSBI arrest man accused of rapes in Oklahoma, Texas

By Fox23.com News Staff

AUSTIN, Tex. — Authorities say they have arrested a man in Oklahoma as part of a multi-state rape investigation.

Hunter Mackey, 27, was arrested by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) for first-degree rape in McLoud on February 17.

The investigation involved the rape of two women in Texas and Oklahoma in 2021.

On October 10, 2021, a woman was reported being sexually assaulted by a suspect, now identified as Mackey in North Texas. She told Fannin County Sheriff’s Office investigators she met him through social media. He picked her up in a sedan with Oklahoma registration, drove to her location and assaulted her. DNA was collected during the investigation and submitted to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

Two months later, investigators were notified of a possible CODIS match between the case in Fannin County and another sexual assault in Ardmore that was being investigated by Ardmore Police and the OSBI. Texas Rangers coordinated with law enforcement in Oklahoma to conduct a search using DNA samples from the Ardmore case. However, no matches or arrests were made.

In August 2024, evidence from the Ardmore case was sent to testing and comparison through the Department of Public Safety Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) program. The sample was sent for DNA testing which led to the ID of three brothers as possible suspects in September 2025. Through further investigation and DNA comparison to the two cases, Mackey was identified as the suspect.

Mackey was arrested in McLoud and is currently being held in the Pottawatomie County Jail.
